Need some help....flap in the gas tank nozzle broke off

So....the flap in the gas tank nozzle broke off and is now floating in the tank. Is this something i need to address immediately? Will that get sucked up in the fuel pump or cause any other issues? Thank you for any advice you may have.

In case it matters, its a 2003 SR5 4runner with a V8

I do not know the answer to the question you asked, but for what it's worth, the flap apparently broke off mine years ago (I don't recall there ever being one) and so far nothing tragic has happened.

Note: If, while driving home from work, the thing stops running and catches on fire with me inside, I curse thee a thousand times for jinxing me and reminding trouble to find me.

The flap will not get sucked up in the pump, it's way too big to fit. It will just sit at the very bottom of the tank for ever and ever and ever. The flap doesn't really do anything important anyway.

Funny, I just noticed mine was missing a few days ago. Couldn't remember if it ever had one or not, but figured it must have since I actually noticed the hole and thought it was weird.

As for the repercussions :noidea:. Good luck to us all I suppose lol
