Need Tire Recommendations

Hello all,

Recently new to the 4Runner world as I purchased an 07 Sport Edition V8 in Salsa Red Pearl color last December. This site has been awesome. Rig came with the stock Bridgestone Dueler H/T 840 - decent tread left, but they are terrible tires. Rain started in the NW already, and these hydroplane miserably and I don't want to run another winter on them.

Looking at new A/T tires, and called out to a few tire shops at lunch. No surprise, there were many recommendations but even more contrasting opinions, which made me want to turn my tire choice to the 4Runner community who knows best thru experience, and not tire shops with commercial interests.

The rig is my DD, no lift - see's a fair blend of city/highway in Seattle, so it needs to be a decent wet weather tire. I do tow (often using slick/gravely/unimproved launches) and also take it to the mountains to go skiing in winter. No significant off roading, but my weekend explorations lead me off the pavement regularly.

Also looking at sizing up to 265/70/17's as one shop said they would help fill the wheel wells a bit better (which I agree with and like the look of) with negligible effects on MPG's and speedometer accuracy... True or???

Thank you in advance for you AT Tire recommendations. What would you prescribe for my usage (Yes, have used the search function as a starting point for my decision)

Edit: One shop recommended Toyo AT2, another General Grabber AT2's....Also have looked at Duratrac, BFG All Terrain T/A KO And Rugged Terrain, Goodyear All Terrain Adventure, Cooper AT3 & ST Maxx, etc). Price not an overlying concern, I want good tread that performs well and has a nice looking shoulder to go along with it.

I run the Toyo AT2 and I believe it is phenomenal. Haven't read a bad review on it. Quiet on road, has worked fine for my mild offroading, great in rain, great in snow (it's seen a lot of it in CO). Cooper AT3 also well-liked. BFG more polarizing (some don't like performance in snow/ice, it's heavier, more expensive, but looks awesome!).

another option on tire size would be 255/75/17. i have the same size tire in 18's and love how they fill the fender. all depending on what tires your going with and coming from you gain about an inch with the tires. i have stuffed both front and rear to the bump stops and dont rub. other then moving the front fender liner its perfect

im running bfg rugged terrains 255/70/18 (32")

I run the BFG All Terrain T/A KO in 265/70/17 on my DD and love it. Looks great, no issues with size, very quiet, and plenty of performance for the occasional trail blazing. Highly recommended.

I see this is the ops 1st post. Not many people have a chance to try every tire and compare it to another. Most all terrains will perform similar. You have to decide if you want 3ply sidewalls for off road abuse or if you are a mall crawler. Most will end up buying a tire based on what it looks like. Most any good all terrain should fit your needs. The BFG all terrain KO is being phased out and is being replaced with the all terrain KO2. This will most likely be my tire choice on my 2014. My next choice is the new Nitto Exo all terrain. Both tires have the 3ply sidewall I want for desert abuse.
