need to eliminate drone, anyone tried muffler delete?

I've got a 14" case Magnaflow welded in the stock exhaust on my V8 4R, with a 4"x14" tip at a 45 instead of the resonator. It sounds good but outside it's not all that loud which is fine but it drones pretty bad inside and since it's the wife's ride she's not happy with it.

Since I already spent the money on it, I want to fix it cheap as possible. Since it doesn't look like there's enough space in front of the muffler to install a glasspack of decent length without removing the flanges, i'd like to have the muffler removed and a pipe welded in its place. I realize that'll make it a lot louder but I think it should reduce interior drone. I think the muffler is acting like a speaker and directing the droning sound waves into the cabin, so with no muffler there's no surface area to direct vibrations inside.

Case in point I had an 86 Silverado cammed 4bbl 350 with LT's and 2.5" dual exhaust. It had glasspacks and while it was loud it didn't drone inside. I got a pair of Summit stainless mufflers thinking it would quiet it down some. It did on the outside but inside it droned so bad I had to wear ear muffs or get a headache.

So has anyone done a muffler delete on their V8, or even a glasspack/bullet muffler and deleted the resonator? I'd like to know if it's worth trying, as i'd really rather not spend the money to try it only for it to not improve or get worse, only to spend more money on a different muffler.

I knew I should have gone with the 18" case muffler......

You may want to try a resonator from Solo or another Co. like that. Another option that works is a resonator off of 94-2002 dodge rams with the cummins.

Since you are cutting and putting new things down there, why don't you move the muffler forward and put a glasspack behind it? There should be plenty of room. I would love to hear what it would sound like with now muffler though.... so if you decide to go that route make sure you post up a video!

The muffler is already about as far back as it'll go so moving it wouldn't help, in fact it works better when the muffler is furthest back and if a resonator is needed, then it's placed before it.

I'm thinking about going with a Magnapack, since it's round it shouldn't direct sound towards the cabin near as bad. I'd go with the 18" case Magnapack to make it that much quieter, but i'd really like to try no muffler just to see how it sounds inside.

I'm hoping someone else hear has tried it, preferably with a V8 but if someone's tried it with a V6 i'd be glad to hear what it sounds like inside too.

Gotcha. I have a Gibson in mine. Get minimal drone around 1800-2100 rpms. It has a round case. Still would love to hear it straight pipe. Pipes cheap, cut muffler off and slide a pipe on, see how you like it. Worst case, need a muffler which you need now due to drone.
