Need your opinion

Ok, long story short. My engine was rebuilt in 2010 i put roughly 60k miles on since then. I paid 600 for the long block. I got what i paid for because my head gasket blew last year. So i recently pulled the engine and did some inspecting. Here is what my bearings look like. Compression was in mid to high 160s before i pulled it. Would you do a complete rebuild since i have it all out? Or just repair as needed since the bearings look pretty good? I dont want to mess with this engine again for a long time. What do you all think?

The cylinders look to have a nice cross hatch im torn what to do. Either way i will have the head checked and cleaned up with a valve job and seals

Swap it for something better. TDI or 3.4L the cost is worth it. As you'll be spending well into $1,500 for a 22re swap. Another 1,000 and you could have ether a TDI or 3.4L.
My opinion but sense I started swapping there i throw running 22re's in the scrap pile because they just are not worth the trouble.

This is actually on my 2wd DD pickup. I really dont have the time to do a swap on it. I just want to get my pickup on the road again so I CAN do a swap on the 4runner.

I would rebuild that on general principles. You already have it out of the truck, and you know it's suspect because it was cheap and the head gasket already went, and rebuild kits for these are pretty cheap.

Agree. Might as well put a cam in it too... because, you know, its already apart.

You guys are a bad influence! lol I already have a cat back (DynoMax Ultra Flo) the header and cam are the missing pieces!!

I was leaning to rebuild as well, just gonna go for it. I already picked up a Toyota head gasket. Now trying to find an OEM gasket kit. Anyone have a part number if such thing exists?

Bearings for sure. How do the cylinders look from the top? Had good compression across the cylinders, so if the cylinder walls look good I wouldn't mess with the pistons or rings.

Oil and water pumps are easy to do now, but not that hard later, so 50-50 on those.
Do a timing chain.

Get a good gasket set and button it up.
