Needed badly 22RE in TX

Trying to help out a fellow member that is very down on his luck.

Bought a 1st gen with a fresh rebuild (with proof) and new gears and tires.

Long story short, the motor was not done right or the gears and it is costing him a fortune. First the gears went, because the pinion nut was not crimped. And now the bearings let go in the motor. He has only had it about 4 months and there have been multiple other issues from wiring harness, igniter, injector clips, exhaust...it goes on..

If anyone has a good 22re that they can let go very cheap, you would be giving a father of 5 back his DD.

Just asking, I thought one of your hoarders (KidV) of all thing 1st gen may have some booty stashed away so place for goodwill.

I'm a hoarder now???

I don't have a motor to send him, sorry. Around here anyway a junkyard longblock goes for around $200, that'd be my suggestion. Get something that works under the hood for the short term, and take his time rebuilding the original block and doing it right. That's what I'm doing right now. :)

No worries, I'm yanking your chain :). I do try to keep spares handy, but I don't think I quite have one of everything.

Yet.

For what he would pay to ship a cheap motor he can replace the bearings. Go ahead and have him pull the engine if he is able. Which bearings failed? He may be better off to repair the engine than to replace it. If it has a fresh rebuild then the machine work on the engine is fresh and it probably has new pistons and rings. It's possible that he just got the wrong size bearings and that's why they gave out. If there's no damage to the crank or rods depending on which bearings gave out then he can have a cheap fix.

Time to hit the Pick a Part. Should be able to get another diff for less than $50. I'd do the same with the short block. More than likely, he's probably trashed the block if the bearings were screwed up but everything else is probably reuseable. Good luck with it.

I actually don't see it now. I'd have him call The 4Runner House in Garland and Toyota Heaven in Kennedale as they usually have some kicking around.

I know the guy, at the 4runner house, i bought a vehicle from him, and sold him my 98 tacoma. Great place if you know about it. i put them in touch, guess we will see where it goes, thank you..

i had a spare sitting in my garage for about a year before i moved to Ohio this last OCT. i finally gave it away to John at Outrider offraod. he is not down with giving it back, he has plans for it.

We still have one in the corner, let me find out the details on it before I say it's a good motor.

I see your in ohio now, I just spent the last month half at inlaws in bealsville. I made it home before the bad weather set in !

Thanks man, I have not mentioned anything to him yet, but I'm still looking.

I miss TX man, it got all tropical here the other day and made it up to 40.

How about a 22re Turbo set up. I know where one is sitting on a stand that might work for him. I can call the guy and see if it is sold yet. I was just there last night looking at it. I picked up a parts motor for my 99 ltd. Let me know what you want to do.

It all depends on price, he has ZERO disposable income at the moment and I was thinking about trying to cover cost for him.

Ill call him and get back to you!

I know It would be drop in pretty much. All the wiring and everything is there, hell even the belts, lol.

did some digging and the one I have is a 20R/22r race motor out of our Baja truck, explains why it's not in a rig already. Sorry will keep an eye out for ya, stay warm !!!
