Nerf bar and running board reviews

I'm thinking about getting some nerf bars or running boards for my wife's 4Runner. I kind of like the steelcraft nerf bars and the DeeZee NXC boards. My wife didn't like the factory offering and doesn't want anything too "wimpy."

I think that boards may be more useful for a step, but I'm concerned that it may make it look too low. Input on how you like yours and pictures would be appreciated.

westin nerf bars

I had westin nerfbars on my 4runner. I really liked them. They felt stable and were not "wimpy" looking...at least not in my opinion. I only took them off to put sliders on, for a better suited off-road vehicle.

I'm actually looking to sell my nerf bars for $100. They were only on the truck for a few months and are in near new conditions. If you're interested let me know and I'll send some more pics.

I had steel craft nerf bars on my 4r but they didn't feel secure enough to me and didn't like that they didn't have a support beam in the middle of the bar. I got my nFabs installed a few days ago and love them. Spacers were needed for the nFabs to clear the rocker panels. I've had 4 people stand on the steps at the same time and no flex. I love the non "wimpy" look of them for sure. I still need to take some pics.

I'm not sure where you are located and I see that MAKDAD is in Texas so this may not be a concern of yours but I have in the past installed nerf bars from Westin and living in the Northeast discovered that after 2 years the bars would quickly rust and really start to look pretty bad. I always did my best to wash away the salt but it was a losing battle. Would be nice if when reading product reviews you could find info on rust resistence as not all are manufactured equally. I have seen some bars out there that look great after many years.

I think a LOT of folks here would be interested in the particulars of the spacers that you used in modifying these "TE only" bars to the SR5/LE rocker panels.

I'm in the middle of putting together 5 spacer sets so SR5/LE guys can run the nFab's to. Please stay tuned as I will be putting up a separate post about it.

I ran westins on my 07 Tundra for 4.5 years, with no problems, they dont salt where I live. On my 4Runner I went with the N-Fabs, no spacers just pulled the rockers off. My 02cents, real sliders or the N-Fabs look the best.

Female 4Runner owner here. I've got the Steelcraft nerf bars (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/65128-nerf-bars-installed.html) and two years later, I'm looking to replace them with real running boards soon.

I love the way they look but they aren't practical for someone like me (whose only 5' 2") who actually has to use the bars to get in and out of my vehicle. And forget using them if you're sitting in the back seat, the flat foot mold area does not line up at all. This is something your wife may want to think about and if you have children, the backseat issue is something to really consider.

I really like the look of the N-Fabs and it looks like I can pull them off on my SR5 since I removed the rockers.

Where are folks getting them from?

^Thanks man! I'm working on it. I called a bunch of places today for the material and it was really expensive. I'm trying to find the best price for the tubing. This stuff is expensive and takes forever to cut since it's 1/4" thick. I'll have it set up soon.
