The foreman from my dealership contacted me regarding the vibration.

He said he wants to take a look at the rack preload and see if its too tight.

Not sure what this means, but he said mine would be the first 4runner to have this done and see if it works.


This make sense to anyone? Not sure what rack preload is.

I just read through it and it seems like an in-depth job.

I don't know if I want these guys taking apart my brand new 4runner like that.

Looking at the TSB and how much disassembly it requires, I don't think I will get this done. I simply don't trust dealerships. The two dealerships I've been working with have been total nightmares.

I will either just deal with it, or trade it in. :sobbing:

i'd let them give it a ago. likely the next step for me is to get rid of this thing. driving me nuts. good thing i bought wheels tires and suspension and have spent a bunch of money on alignments and road force balances, amirite?

Got tied up with an ABS light issue and yet to get back to Discount Tire to check the balance on the tires. Did get on interstate for extended drive with no problems or vibration. My vibration is only at around 34-35 mph, and then it's not violent or anything but annoying.

I'm finally making some progress.

America's Tire replaced the bad Goodyear Ultra Terrain tire that had 41lbs of road force and the violent shaking is gone. I don't trust their balance so I'm taking it back to my tire guy to get it road forced balance with the Haweka adapter.

The front tire lost a weight so some minor vibration came back in the steering wheel. I have to get that taken care of also.

I would let them do it before you trade it in. If it works, then you are good forever. You won't have to worry anymore about getting perfectly round tires or getting a 100% perfect balance to avoid the shakes.

I read about this issue on here, but thankfully, my 2019 TRDOR is rock solid at 21k miles. Totally motionless steering wheel. Factory Dunlops.

There are little springs in the rack which essentially put tension on the steering wheel and tie rods (it might just be one or the other).

The forman is most definitely looking at that TSB.

It's really not that bad of a job. You could do it in your driveway. Given the rare nature of this work they would most likely have their master tech on the job (hell I would even request they have their most seasoned on the job just to be sure).

You could trade it in. Or you could get this work done and have more evidence for the lemon law? (I'm not on expert on lawyering up stuff so please just take this as me spitballing) Personally I don't see why you should have to lose money on a trade because toyota ****ed up. I think they should try to fix it. If they can't fix it then I would see about them taking it back.

Keep in mind most people don't have this issue. They are fantastic trucks. You just have a spot of bad luck. If that lemon law applies you could get a brand new runner. Given the rarity of the issue I highly doubt you would get the same issue twice.

In fact after participating in this thread I have been paying closer attention to my own vibration and it's definitely road surface dependant (AKA no issue). Just sensitive. Hoping aftermarket suspension will dial that out. Remains to be seen.

Got really tired of dealing with this problem, and decided to trade it in yesterday.

The wobble came back on mine, on top of the already electric toothbrush feeling I had the entire time.

Good thing about the 4runner is it holds it value, so I got 36K for it and I paid 37K for it when I bought. I can deal with a 1K loss.

I hope Toyota steps up and fixes this problem one day. It really is an amazing vehicle. Sad to see her go.

I did some reliability research and these seem to be doing good. We'll see.

For having such beefy tires, and off road shocks, it rides incredibly nice. I actually get less feedback on the steering wheel on this, than I did on the 4runner lol

Yup, plus what I spent on getting tint and new tires on the 4runner. So I'm out maybe $2,500 at the end.

Worth it to me to keep my sanity. #firstworldproblems

Glad your liking it. You will prob find off road at speed it's better than a 4runner. Generally my consensus on pickups is they ride significantly better than 4runners out of the box.
