New 15 TEP - Weekend Project

Finished the install of the rear last night - all went smoothly. Had to drill and tap a hole for the passenger side remote resi.

All installed

Went and got the new tires mounted up this morning - 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers G2.

I have some minor rubbing on the mud flap which I will take off and trim tonight. It is off getting the alignment done now, so hoping it might decrease it a bit with a little castor adjustment.

Heading up to the mountains tomorrow to get this thing dirty and break her in a bit - can't wait!

Greedy,

Are you going to add boots to rear shocks? ICON told me they won't warranty on the 4Runner without them as they get pitted from gravel damage.

They mentioned its not always a problem depending on where/how your driving, however if they get them back with rod pitting they won't cover the replacement, new o-rings or labor.

Just an FYI.

Do you mean the metal "Shin Guards" they have? I wasn't aware that it was an issue, but seems like an easy enough fix. Thanks for the heads up!

KDSS system with suspension lifts

Great work on the suspension. So you had trouble with the KDSS mount brackets? I've seen one or two posts about lifting TR4 TE with KDSS and how you handle the sway bar disconnect pistons. One post said you had to bleed the KDSS piston when the suspension gets lifted. I understand what the system is and how it integrates hydraulic lines, pressure relief tanks and pistons on each wheel, but I don't understand how you service it or bleed the system. It's not like a brake line system where you can pump the brakes until all of the air is expelled. Does anyone have any comments on the KDSS system, how it works on a lift or how you dealt with it? I want to buy the TR4 TE with KDSS but will forgo the KDSS if you can't lift the suspension.
TIA,
Dave

ICON:

"• We recommend the use of our #56100 shock shin guards or a protective boot to reduce the chance of shock shaft damage.

These shocks are located in a vulnerable position that allows debris to easily come in direct contact with the shock shaft."

Shock guards work, boots are cheaper . . . either way.

Interesting, lifted mine with no attention given to the KDSS, seems to work fine. Curious to see if others did it differently.

There is no need to bleed out the fluid, or maintain it in any way. It is a closed loop system, that does not need to be modified at all for a mild lift (3" or less). It was just a little diffucult with one set of hands to get the front KDSS brackets to line up correctly after removing them - and to reinstall the bolts without cross threading. Pretty easy lift install overall, I wouldn't shy away from KDSS if that is your only concern with it.

As someone who has seen some nice personal garages, yours is in the top tier of them. Love the pex air lines as well as the lathe or is that a mini CNC machine? Nice touch with the darkened glass?

No bathroom or sink?

Thanks for the compliments! It's an older, manual lathe. I just recently started to study machining, and I thought that learning to do everything manually would give me better understanding of how to do it correctly. If I like it and my projects require it, I might step up to a cnc machine some day. Still looking for a craigslist upright mill too.

The bathroom and sink are in the utility room, just the left of the workbench :D

Finally got a chance to take it out a little and try out the new suspension and tires. Headed up to Stevens Pass on Sunday with the wife and dog and messed around on some forest service roads and power line trails. Was really impressed with the overall ride and handling - can't wait to get into some more challenging terrain and really put it through it's paces...
