My 2011 had the whine that I assume you're talking about. It got much worse right after I changed the transmission fluid. It got slightly better with some miles but still remained. After a while I dropped the pan and filter and found it was full of gold shavings. At just over the 60k miles drivetrain warranty I decided it was time for my 4R to be someone else's problem and bought a 2015 TDI Jetta (yippie!) and a 2001 Cherokee. I couldn't take the noise anymore and couldn't stand the idea that my truck would leave me stranded alongside the road.
From my limited probing and shavings in the trans I can only assume that the whine comes from the torque converter or somewhere in that area. I had actually come to visit the forum to see if there was any progress made on the whine but I guess it continues on.
