New 4runner trail & new to site

New member
Hello, my names dillon and this is my first thread i bought myself a black 2012 4runner trail edition 12/24/12 and want to level it enough to fit 33" tires i dont want the tires to stick out of fender well at all i want my black paint to be somewhat protected i see that alot of people are using icon lifts just looking for a few ways i can go to level my new 4runner and then rim off sets and tire sizes that worked for you

This has been covered ad nauseum on the forum - do a search to find this info.

What you get depends on what you want to do with your Runner. Out wheeling a lot? Get a performance oriented kit like the Icon or Toytec Ultimate. Just want the look or just doing occasional wheeling? Get an affordable spacer lift.

Either route you go, a 3" lift will fit 285/70/17s with very limited rubbing on stock rims. Change to a 17x9" with a -12mm offset and expect to do a body mount chop to mitigate rubbing. The 17x9s will fit in the fenders without sticking out too far tho.
 
awesome thanks for the input really like your build yeah basically just more of a look than anything but i want it to preform well i assume the trail stock equipment is worth the extra money i paid at the dealer
 
As a somewhat new member myself, all I can say is that you search before asking. Not to long go I got ripped for not doing so. I'm a member on many forums and this is the only one that I have seen members get upset at each other for not searching before asking. I just don't get it.

yeah i searched a little just was looking for a link for this topic and went through and looked at the lift alot of people used for their builds pretty great forum though bought my 4runner on monday already have 100000 things i wanna do to it

The answers you'll get here are in-depth and quite professional. So when these folks take the time to answer the questions they want you to have done your part too, meaning search. A 4Runner forum culture I suppose yes, however unfair of them to request this? Nah.
 
Are you going to lift it or just level it? You can get a 33 underneath with just a level kit from ToyTec, just take a look at Harper7's build. This would suffice for a street rig.

If you plan on joining us on some local trips maybe a front spacer and rear coils (or Billy's up front).

All depends on your goal for your rig on how drastic you take your suspension. I say plan it out first then do it RIGHT ONCE! At least that is the way I am building my rig from previous modded car experience.

yeah i really want to make sure i do it right the first time i would really like to fit something bigger than 285 70 17s and i already came stock with 265 70 17s and i still am trying to see how good the stock trail suspension is compared to the other options out there i havent even touched the dirt yet because its only 5 days old but i do want it taller with more clearance and want to do the 3" at minimum and thanks for showing me harper7's http://www.toyota-4runner.org/gallery/58037-june-2010-t4rotm-harper7.html

Congrats, Follow Up

Hey Congrats on the new ride, I got my 2012 Black TE at Toyota Marin too. If you get your lift work done around here I would like to hear about who you used to do the install and how it went.
 
If you want to do it right the first time, I would suggest doing a ton of research, saving up, then buying a quality suspension. I can tell you from my Tacoma that I wheel, you will eventually want to go offroad, buy bumpers/armor, etc. Then, you will wish you did not have to buy a new setup. I started with a Revtek Spacer lift in my Tacoma. I have since gone through three different setups until I got what I wanted. I used this experience with my new 4Runner and splurged from the get-go on suspension.

Good luck and do not rush you choice. Also think about doing the work yourself. It is not too difficult with a little research and general vehicle knowledge.

I plan on doing all the work myself I have installed a few lifts on some of my friends cars

Yeah that's how I feel I just want to do it right once just built a ar15 and listened to just one guy and ended up changing alot so I don't want to do that right now I'm leaning towards a spacer lift because I really only want ground clearance and the look so I can put some bigger tires underneath I just feel that the trail edition will be capable of most everything I will do with it I do own a 1987 Toyota pickup I wanna sas one day so this is more daily driver mall crawler but I have been checking out icons and all I hear is great stuff so really just waiting to read something really bad about my suspension now that will make me want to go big I want to go with 275x70x18 anyone had any experience with that size ??

hey bernard were you at toyota marin yesterday i dropped mine off yesterday to get washed and saw a black te in the parking lot i almost got in it then realized it wasnt mine
 
Trail Sighting

Nope, wasn't me at the dealership, haven't been back to the dealer. There are not a lot of Trails around, I am sure i will see you around!
