New Avalon technology

I would not hold my breath on this one, since Toyota rarely puts any high end technology in the 4-Runner. Even the 4-Runner Entune system is the low end version for Toyotas as is the JBL.

While a neat idea, I wouldn't be upset to not see it in a 4Runner. USB/Bluetooth seems to be the direction we are heading. I would not be surprised to see vehicles no longer equipped with a traditional cd player eventually. Since every phone charger anymore utilitizes USB on one end, and 12 volt chargers are cheap it doesn't seem necessary.

In other news I'm digging the new Avalon over the old one.

I have to agree with you on that. It's nice.

I really wish Toyota would adopt some of this innovative technology into the 4R.

At least make it an option for people to buy.

I've always liked the Avalon, but would never buy one, until now. It's such a change and is supposed to have some kind of sportiness to it, but I'm not going to sell my baby for one!

For me, whenever I am in my car, I have my iphone connect to USB for music or navigation (via Google Maps of course). And USB also charges at the same time. So, something like this is useless for me.

Not really a fan of technology in cars like this. Stuff changes faster than I can buy cars.

Where's my damn Siri button?

Qi wireless charging seems to be the standard that is being adopted for wireless charging. The new Nokia and HTC phones that have just come out have it built right in, no need for a special case. For me this seems like a great idea since I use Bluetooth for my audio. This would get rid of the USB cable that I've always got dangling out of the armrest.

Funny that there's an iPhone in the picture but they aren't compatible with this wireless charger. Nice to see them headed in this direction instead of bowing to the bully from Cupertino like BMW.

At least in my Prius JBL, USB audio is superior to the BT audio...seems less compress via USB. The same for my Subaru HK system.

I thought you could buy a special case that would allow it to work. Sort of like the Mophie Juicepack, where the case plugs into the bottom of the phone and transfers the charge?

I would happy if they would adopt some of the more current technology they already have on the shelf and use in other Toyota vehicles.

I thought we bought our trucks because we like old school stuff?

If you want that, go get something unibody with independent front and rear suspension.

In other news, Antman will probably post this mod for the center console slot in the coming hours, once he gets over the world not ending.

I love that the 4R is a Truck and is a mean machine. I also love technology.
I WANT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS DA-MN IT! :)

I agree, if some of Toyota's other engine&transmission technologies/options were migrated/adapted to the Runner platform I would seriously consider trading up. :)
