Hello guys,

Just a quick question here..

I'm buying a '04 4Runner V8 Limited with about 85k miles. Looks pretty clean inside and out as well as the engine. They definitely sparked it up! I'm taking it to a toyota dealership tomorrow before I buy it to do an inspection. Is there anything specific for this year/engine that I should be looking into ?

That is a good truck. I'd do an autocheck (shows more than a carfax) to be sure there are no issue and to verify mileage. Sounds like you found a nice one.

I'd check to see that the t-case actuator's working. A truck that clean probably's never been off the pavement and maybe never in low which can cause issues.

You'll also be coming up on a timing belt change being due. Not much really goes wrong with these. I bought mine at 95K or so and haven't had any issues outside of expected maintenance.

Let the dealer point out issues but take it with a grain of salt.

Listen for a tick from exhaust manifolds on cold start. They are expensive to replace.

Have them pull the wheels off and check the calipers for stuck pistons. Common issue with the 4th Gen.

Technically, the timing belt should have been replaced already due to time rather than miles. You may want to bring that up to the seller if it hasn't been done.

The original belts were 6 years but they have upped it to 9 years on the new belts.

I changed mine late last year in my 04, kind of a shame to swap a belt when you only have 40k on the truck but better safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot for the info guys. Unfortunately I missed that one by about 30 mins... someone went and got it right before I got there.

Good news is I found another one just as good if not better it's an 06 Sport with about 85k. Just picked it up yesterday. I'm a happy camper now
