New car condition please help!

My 2010 Llimited just arrived in the dealer's lot today (from another dealer) so I immediately drove over to take a look.
The car obviously had been driven and it has 52kms on it. The dealer told me it's been driven in order to have its paperwork doen i.e. freight & PDI. None of the seats were covered by plastic like other new cars I've seen.

This is my first new car so I'm just wondering if that is normal. I don't wanna get a demo car for the price of a new one.

Sounds like it has had a test drive or two. Mine had 3 miles on it when I picked it up.

FWIW, my mom got her Rav4 w/ 200+ miles on it because it was a dealer trade. No issues or concerns at all. Get them to throw in an oil change or something to sweeten the deal. I really doubt it was driven hard, though. The two 4Runners I test drove never saw 4k RPM. The truck is plenty content between 1500 and 2500 rpm, so I wouldn't worry.
 
If my math is right 52km is only around 32 mi so it may have been demoed. It shouldnt have that many miles on it just from a dealer transfer unless it was driven from dealer to dealer. I could understand under 10 mi on the OD but 52 would make me suspicious. As for the lack of plastic covers from the factory, most of that is pulled off once it comes off the truck.
 
Anything under 3K miles and you should consider it new. As long as it doesn't have a "repaired" designation or something like that it's not a big deal.
 
My car had 2 miles on it when I picked it up. If it had anything over 10 I would tell them to try again. If I spend 42 grand on a new car, it better be my new car, not one slutted around...
 
mine had 5km on it when i picked it up.

i figured thats the amount of kms it took to get it onto the boat, off the boat, onto a trailer and then off the trailer with some moving around in between.

mine didnt have plastic on the seats but it was definetly new.

Man aren't you lucky! FYI I live in Vancouver.

Thanks for you inputs guys! The car is transported from another dealer which is located approxiately 550 kms away, so I'm pretty sure it was trucked in. So I guess 52kms isn't all that bad after all. Still I'll play unhappy and get them to throw in maybe an oil change or two. Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed knowing my new 4runner had been test driven a couple of times.

I'll post pics once I get the car.

Man, congrats. I am from Vancouver too ... km instead of miles.

For sure it was test driven more than a few times. Let's say average test drive is 5km to/from ... then it means about 10 times. Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I remember my 3rd gen, when I picked it up, it had about 50km on it as well. I would definately make sure that you get some freebies from them (e.g. all season mats, cargo mat ... as the 2010 4runner does not have one, locking fuel cap, some free oil changes etc)... 52km is demoed, but to the dealer it is still consider "new" because it was never registered.

When I pu my 5th gen, it had 2km on it ... nice truck. BTW, seems the fuel consumption is better than the 3rd gen?:party:

Damn! Why would they use a prefect blizzard pearl limited for demo! It hurts my feelings. Just curious which dealer you got your truck from? I got mine from regency on kingsway.
They agreed to throw in a set of free mats when I signed the agreement. Do you think I can still ask for more stuff since the deal is already closed? I've already paid $1,000 deposit. I wanna ask for the tonneau cover and also the crossbars. Would that be too much to ask?

which dealership are you having troubles with?

i originally went to openroad toyota in richmond and got screwed royally

went to new westminster toyota and had much better results.

Looks like it's not just me. At first I went to openroad toyota in richmond and destination toyota in burnaby. They are just terribad. Then I went to regency toyota on kingsway and settled with them since they are much more decent. Well, the previous two didn't set the bar quite high anyway. I intended to knock $3,000 off MSRP but gf was happy with 2,000. "shrug". The dealer did not charge me for $220 paint premium not the $350 transportation fee for locating the truck from another dealer in williams lake.
They threw in a set of mats but now I wonder if I could ask for the tonneau cover since the truck has been test driven.
 
52 kms us nothing. Probably a couple of test drives, considering it was sitting at another dealer.

Good luck getting a free oil change, you should already be getting 2 years of maintanence included. At least I did when a bought mine (in Canada too).
 
Sounds to me like it was driven from one dealer to another - as your post states. 52kms... not a big deal, regardless of what some people say.

My last vehicle was a dealer swap - driven from Wyoming down to the Denver Metro area... had about 80 miles on it... the distance between the two dealers. My Ford Super Duty was traded between two dealers and driven 150 miles. I didn't care, better to get what I wanted sooner rather than wait for a special factory ordered vehicle.

Bottom line... is it a big deal to you? If it is, then you need to figure out what your comfort level is.

If your 4R was indeed traded from another dealer, it will show that dealer as the destination on the window sticker.
 
yeah openroad richmond sucked really bad.

long story short. my TE was put on display in the showroom for hundreds to mess about with when i was told it'd be brand spankin new.

good luck with your 4R

Based on my reading into the brochure, all TE and Limited all come with the tonneau cover ... look at the brochure. The only one w/o the tonneau cover is the SR5.

Should arm yourself with a copy of the brochure and show them that there is to be a tonneau cover. Good luck.
