New Cell Phone compatibility..GS4/HTC1

Hi,

I'm off contract and ive been using an iphone 4s for some time. I am considering which phone to switch to. I'm tired of the apple's small screen and I am/was considering the following phones.

1) HTC One 2) Samsung Galaxy 4 3) Nokia Lumia 920

To start off I looked at the compatibility lists on Toyota's website and while they say its updated regularly the don't list anything new but the iphone 5. The windows 8 phones came out in November and nothing so I called Toyota to inquire and of course got the typical "Our engineers and working on it". I replied well you should let them go if they cant test a phone within 6 months of its release...

So I passed on the Nokia 920 since there's 0 support for it with Entune.

I'm considering the HTC One next. It just released today. I've heard of some issues with HTC's Bluetooth stack. Does anyone use a recent HTC phone and do you have any Bluetooth issues?

Lastly the Galaxy S4 gets released on the 30th. I'm not sure I want a 5" cell brick in my pockets so its last on my list for that reason. However if it works well with entune AND doesn't have any Bluetooth issues that's the one i'm going to end up with...

I would appreciate any advice you all may have....(other than staying with apple that is)

Go with an S3!
Will be cheaper and the BT works fine in my the 4R. Love this phone. You won't be loosing much by not getting the S4.

i thought the new HTC ONE phones lacked LTE support? Aren't all of them HSPA+? That would kill it for me, as LTE is ridiculously fast. I'm in DC and get 48 down 17 up on AT&T LTE. INSANE

can't comment on the bluetooth issues/versions as i have aftermarket. good luck

I can't speak for the S4, but the S3 seems to work pretty well with the entune in my 4runner. I haven't had too many hiccups to complain about, and while the entune app in the android market is pretty basic, it does what it's suppose to do.

I have the Nav/Etune in my '13 Trail and have been using it with a HTC Droid DNA for the past month. No issues with them communicating, however I have noticed some call quality issues with incoming calls only from another cell phone. It's only occurred 2-3 times and it was while I was streaming music. Something about the interruption to answer the call seems to affect the connection/quality. Note that this has only occurred on a few select calls from the same number, and I haven't been able to test much further. I kind of blame the person calling possibly talking to loud and close to the mic, they seem to hear me fine.

Overall I am very happy however with the performance.

Update:

I got the ATT store to let me take the new HTC One out to my T4R and plug it in and pair it.

I loaded the entune app from the google store and everything works! Bluetooth, tested some calls, Entune apps connected to the web via the USB cable that I plugged into the HTC One.

I placed an order for one. It releases Friday.

I just got an update to my HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon and my Bluetooth hasnt been right since. Caller I'D won't show up on the screen anymore. Previous to the update it worked fine.

*grin*.. my Thunderbolt got upgraded to target practice receiver last November. One claps of thunder and it bolted out of existence and it's misery.

Don't have Entune in my 2010, but everything runs like a charm with my G3.

Not sure I would agree with the statement that you wouldn't be loosing much by going with the S3. The S4 will out spec the S3 in every area while providing a larger screen and battery in an overall smaller package. The S3 is about a year old now so it's anyone's guess as to how much longer it will continue to get major updates. If you're planning on purchasing a subsided phone and keeping it the length of the contract, I would go with the latest version. Yes you will save some upfront with the S3, but is it enough of a savings to start a two year contract with a phone that's a year old already, especially at the rate that tech advances.

I agree with Mace. Go with the latest and trade it as soon as you are eligible.

For me, working in IT I know I will always have a smartphone and a ATT contract so I might as well get a new device every 18 months. Of course it's part of the carriers/manufacturers planned obsolescence.

My last 2 apple devices have given up the battery ghost in 18 months. My 4s is doing the same. I don't know if it was the last 6.1.1 update but ive had it with apple and want a larger screen/battery combo.

So in my case i'm happy with the HTC One. Excellent design and feel. Better than Samsung anything. I doubt that i'll care about 1.7ghz quad core vs. 1.9ghz quad core reading emails or booking calendar appointments. My phone is for work, not entertainment.

I wish I just could dual boot it to win8. lol.

I'm just glad it works out of the box with Entune and Toyota's Bluetooth stack. Hopefully someone will benefit from my time today testing ATT's demo HTC One unit.

Good choice. I'd be getting one if I didn't already have a Nexus 4.

I don't believe you need the USB cable to connect Entune to the web, at least I don't, though it makes sense if you are charging at the same time.

Followup: I got my HTC One yesterday. Best looking/feeling cell phone i've ever had. nicer than all the iphones ive had.

in any case i loaded entune and plugged it in...nothing....then remembered i had to pair the bluetooth.

After a few moments it began working as it should.

I did/do find that every time i plug it into the usb the phone itself goes into usb developer mode but i found that i can manually turn that off and then its golden.

so..confirmed the HTC one, released on 4/19 works with entune in the 4runner.

HTC ONE Pairing Problems

Just got the HTC One (ATT) and it it an awesome phone. I am having issues pairing it as a audio player. It pairs with the car (2011 4runner sr5), the phone (calls) works via blue tooth, the phone is listed as an audio player, but it will not play music via bluetooth. I've reset the phone, reset the car BT settings, paired and unpaired - still no luck. Talked with ATT, HTC, and Toyota. I've always considered myself fairly technically competent, but this is frustrating me, any suggestions?

Cell Phone

I have the HTC Windows 8 phone, through Verizon and everything paired and is working fine in both vehicles. I have a 2011 4Runner and a 2012 Lexus LS460. I paired the phone in the 4Runner via voice command as I do not have Nav. In the LS460 with Nav it is one tap on the screen and everything went smooth.

Does the Htc one work with all the text message functions? Entune is out as im in canada so thats not a concern to me but so far the only phone I can get to work is a galaxy s3 the s4 is out im also looking at the xperia z series but sony said the only droid that will work 100% is one on 4.0 software
