I know Duratrac is great tire and many people on this forum have them. I am for market to buy new tire right now. Discount tire told me about this new Cooper MTP tire which looks just as agressive and very similar to Duratrac and slightly cheaper. Does any have experience weith Cooper MTP tires? Size i am looking at may not matter but 285/70/r17 like most people on the forum. Any opinions will be appreciated.

It is a tire made just for discount tire and it is only 2 ply so i would look elsewhere. I would go cooper st maxx or stt pro over the duratrac any day though imho.

I've had two sets of the Duratracs. Absolutely loved them for every condition of weather. I just can't trust them on the trails anymore. The sidewalls are only 2 ply and I've had my share of tire changing with them because of that. At one time I had 6 or 7 plugs in the side wall which I continued to wheel it like that for 2 days lol. I'm not saying that other manufacturers' side walls are indestructible. Just a little piece of mind for me. Looking into a set of Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ now. Really wanted the Cooper STT Pro, but worked out a better deal for the MT with my distributor. It has a 3 ply sidewall and more stable of a tire.

I absolutely LOVED my duratracs until they started wearing out. I bought them new in 2011 and put a TON of miles on them between then and now. Probably about 60k miles.
They wore VERY well until about a year ago. In fact, they looked damn near new. However, once they started wearing they wore out very quickly. I have lost as much rubber in the past year as I did in the first 4 years I ran them. With that they have gotten quite loud (compared to when they were nearly silent) and have started to show signs of cupping even though I have been rotating the tires and my alignment is spot on.
My next tires will likely be the cooper ST maxx or pro.

I have the MTPs with only about 6000 miles on them. I love how aggressive they look and get plenty of compliments but only tested them in mud. They performed excellent. A little loud on the highway but nothing unbearable. When these wear down I'm going with the STT pro's like the others suggested due to the three ply.

MTP vs Duratrac seems to be a fair rivalry. As noted these are lighter a/t tires so may not be the best for your application, or maybe they're perfect.. You gotta decide. If you don't play in the rocks much and just want an aggressive a/t with good wet weather performance these are great choices. Cooper makes good tires, I'd say give them a shot if they're cheaper and report back to us. Sorry,
