New England B.S. Thread

Most of the time I meet or exceed the MPGs shown on the window sticker with my 305s. Having the wide tires is nice for those times I forget I'm not driving a sports car :D. The 305's I have are cheaper than most 285s I've seen too. Maybe in the future I'll run dedicated offroad wheels.

Not in the immediate future. Been tossing around the idea of 18's though

18's are a great choice! As mentioned the tire selection is somewhat limited but all the popular tires that folks are running here are available in an 18. The < 1/2" sidewall difference shouldn't be a factor at all, I've got many miles off road on mine with the only trouble being I tore out a valve stem on a log.

Anyhow...how's the ride? What's your impression compared to stock?

Oh and more pics too!!

I run 255/85/16 KM2's on my 4Runner. They perform really well off road and to be honest, they are really well behaved on pavement. I run them at ~ 40 psi for pavement, higher if towing the horse trailer. On my Taco, I am running the 235/85/16 Duratrac which are actually the same tread width as the KM2's but diameter is 31" whereas the KM2's are a solid 32". (Both tires are P-rated)

Neither one appears "too skinny" but it is a more classic or business-like look. No one has ever commented that my tires look skinny.

Unless you are running on a surface that you need to float on, you will get better off road performance (and better mileage on road) with the narrower tread.

Well, 2 front struts have arrived and at this rate I might be able to join you guys some time this year.

Fkn ridiculous.

Chill Will - you weren't kidding about the time these guys take

Did you get the rest of your order? I blew out a rear shock and need to place an order. They have what I need at a good price, but I can't bring myself to order from them again.

Ah I thought you had 235's. I love the look of the 255's! They handle the trails wonderfully and are a very road worthy tire n

Will, I have extra Bilsteins if you need them. Not sure if they will fit your 3rd gens

What series are they so I can look em up to see if they fit

The rear 5100's

I think the 3rd gens have double eyelet shocks?

What do you currently have for shocks? How worn are those Billies? I'm still looking to see if they will fit. I currently have OME but was thinking on going with a stiffer OME I believe the N86 over the nitro sports which I currently have.

Currently I have Fox 2.0 piggy backs

Probably gonna keep the Billy's just I case, or for when I send the Fox shocks to get serviced/rebuilt. The Bilsteins have about 20k on them. Practically new!

Qjake, you have the icon 3.5" CO's right? How do you like them? I'm looking at those for my next round of lift

On the road the ride is noticeably stiffer on initial compression and smaller surface features, and rightfully so, but comfortable and composed everywhere else.
When I drove to a nearby Class 6 road for a test session I noticed how much easier it was to maintain increased speed in the open sections as well as the positive feedback and no feeling of disconnect when being "shaken up". The obvious advantage of added ground clearance aside, the setup has enhanced the chassis considerably over the stock, 170,000 mile XREAS it has replaced.

Yep, all installed and ready to go.

I'll be placing a 2nd order with them and if the wait time is the same, I guess I'll know to plan breaking things 6wks in advance!
:roadkill:

Forgot to ask but does anyone in this thread have an industrial blower or two that they could part with for a couple days? Came home to water in my carpeted basement yesterday...

Oh no!

I have a few floor fans that are like 2' wide and a dehumidifier

Yeah I know what you mean, you feel every little crack but they feel good :wink2: The springs will settle a littie over the next couple of weeks and that aspect of the ride will smooth out. Offroad though is where you'll see a huge improvement, as you've noticed already instead of bouncing you all around it'll eat up the bumps at moderate speeds :D Just don't pull an Alex and launch yourself off a huge whoop and blow out your shock

Yeah I have the non-resi Icon extented travel c/o's they've been awesome so far and are holding up really well considering all the deicer crap they put on the roads here. If I were to do it over the only thing I would have added would be the IVD corrosion protectant offered by Icon. Well worth the extra hundred.

Oh and a couple of additions to my ride this week.

Trail Edition headlights and re-tinted the front windows at 20%

Pic doesn't do it justice I'll take some better ones tomorrow :boink:

Also thinking of wrapping the hood, here's my choices....I'm leaning towards Black matte carbon fiber what'd you guys think?

I'm really leaning toward the 3.5" icons and some camburg UCA's.

I'm not sure if I'd trust the IVD coating though. Any testimonials of how well it holds up over time?

Truck looks awesome with the tint and the TE headlights Billy!

Also, I'd definitely go for the black carbon fiber wrap because it looks like it would almost match your MGM. Do you have glare issues or is it just for aesthetics?

Between the carbon fiber choices definitely black matte carbon fiber, the lighter color might look a bit funny next to the darker magnetic gray. If you decide on a solid matte color, have you considered the one SOcalTRAIL used? I remember it matching very well to the magnetic gray and it was also 3M 1080 film I believe...between the two though, my vote goes for the solid matte wrap. I feel like the carbon fiber look may or may not get old in a hurry :)
