What are the trails like that you do? I have a stock 2013 sr5 and am wondering if it would be capable of doing some trails. The only thing I've done so far are the dunes by race point. I'd hate to damage my truck, but am intrigued with the idea of trail riding.

A couple of places we go are stock friendly (loosely speaking) but the next couple of runs will be in very rocky and hilly terrain. Im not %100 sure you wont damage the truck. I don't worry too much anymore but how would you feel about rippin off the rear bumper, flat tires , scratched rims, dented skids and the possibility of rocker damage. We all run lifts, armor plating, skids, sliders, bumpers and winches. And there is still carnage ! I will let everyone know the next time we do a stock friendly run, but we end up spending too much time babysitting and worrying about brand new stock trucks, and it ends up being boring. On that note, your stock 4runner can totally make it, but at what cost ? If you saw my truck you would cringe. Lots of scratches, rear bumper falling off, busted tail light, its a trail rig and it shows.

Josh- thanks for replying. Sounds like you have a lot of fun out there. Probably more fun than I'd be comfortable with just yet. I'll keep my eye on this thread and hopefully will see something in my comfort zone.

Jim I see you are from Taunton. Have you tried anything in Freetown state forest. They aren't really legal but I haven't had any problems there yet. I currently can't do much wheeling since I ripped my skid off when I went to middletown.

This is after josh helped me bend my skid back. It initially looked like a snow plow. Once I get my skid situation fixed I could show you around Freetown.

I've only gone by myself so have been scared to push it much. The trails are pretty narrow so lots of pinstripes. I have also seen the environmental police out there, luckily I was on one of the main trails. Seems like a lot of activity there on the weekends. I have a couple trails that I like to go on. There is a decent amt of water so I did the rear diff mod pretty early on. Moneyy has gotten pretty scarce at my house since my step daughter started college and my daughter will be going in Sept. The money that is free right now is going to my bobber project. Hope to get some skids soon.

I want to see this bobber project! I've always wanted to start one of my own.
 

It's an 89 sportster. Ive been working on it off and on the last 3 years. I am going to bring it to a bike shop in spencer in the next couple weeks. I want to make sure the brakes etc work correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion about Freetown. I went there today for a little while. Lots of trails in there. I saw a few other trucks, so I imagine it's not too illegal.

Sorry to see the picture of your skid plate. That must have made a hell of a noise. You have a cool looking bike.

I think I'd like to explore freetown some more. It's very close to me as I live near the intersection of 24 and 140.

Im screwed for wheeling next weekend, I found out I need LCA bushings, balljoints,and a wheel bearing. Even if the parts get here by the weekend I wont be rolling in time.
 
Hey guys whats up Kinda new to the forum, well been lurking on here for a while but just finally picked up my 4runner a couple weeks ago.I live in NYC but i'm up in MA all the time on the weekends and around holidays my wifes Fam lives in Marlborough,i would love to meet up with you guys one of these days and hit some trails with you!

Im waiting on a set of FJ coils right now and i still have to go on and order some spacers asap,and hopefully tires soon after! So i pry won't able to hit any of the harder trails with you guys until thats stuffs done.

I actually went on a small trail the day after i got it haha in shrewsbury i think it ran along some power lines and had a fun little rock trail and some mudd and stuff to play in, i'm not gonna lie i got a little intimidated at one point because im pretty new to off roading and when i saw the rock trail i wasn't sure if i could do it but i have to say for a stock 4runner it did awesome! There where a couple guys at the bottom who went down before me in a old chevy blazer and punctured a whole in their oil pan.

Anyways hopefully we can get up soon and hit some trails!

Welcome to the forum and the 4Runner community as a whole!

You'll be surprised how capable these stock rigs are with proper technique and patience.

You, unlike that chebby, have engine skid plates, so you won't poke your oil pan. Granted, you won't get much hard abuse out of the stock skids though....

To be fair, I beat the shit out of my skids on some challenging trails. It's a very capable truck with very minimal mods required.

Let me know. You ever need a hand installing something!

Yes new skids are definitely on my list. I just promised the wife i would do all the fancy upgrades first for her mostly interior Nav, back up camera ( life saver for parking in Nyc ) etc fed ex literally just delivered my new Pioner Avic-Z150bh, Soo gonna do that stuff next week then on to the next Mods which will hopefully be lift,spidertrax and tires!

Also on my list is the speedometer and dash lights which you do correct? So thats in the near future also..

I'm not much of a mechanic either. That is why I'm going to take it to have it finished. I've done what I could but am lost on centering the rear tire etc. I am looking forward to riding it after looking at ignoring the last 3 years.

Yeah it's nice and close to me as well. I live at the other end of 140 in New Bedford.
