That's a real bummer. 2 mpg is actually quite significant- if you lost 2 mpg on average, that would be around a 10% loss. With today's fuel costs in my area (which are quite low) I'd be looking at an additional $550 or so over the life of the tires. If fuel were a lot closer to $3/gallon, it would be more like $750 over the course of 40k miles.



Then again, I didn't buy a 4Runner for its fuel mileage.

Yes, but I rarely drive in the city. I am still averaging 18MPG highway. Below is a screenshot of my app Road Trip. You can see over the past 12 months MPG has declined, but not just because of tires. I have been carrying heavier loads and pushing the engine much harder.

The second pic is my mileage over the life of the 4Runner which declines more and more as I add modifications and push the truck harder off road...

That decline is also partially attributed to winter gas which does yields lower MPG due to changes in EPA requirements during winter months. Overall not a bad hit for the tires

Wow, thanks for sharing! That's a pretty awesome way to store your mileage data. I've been using Fuelly, but it doesn't look quite as cool as that.

I also found photos of your truck earlier in this thread; I've got to admit those Falkens look pretty sweet even in stock size.

The mileage is declining at the same rate over the entire year. The Falken Tires didn't appear to change the rate of decline. Either the added weight or your lead foot is probably driving the change in mileage. Are you driving progressively faster over time? Are you driving more in the city and less on the highway as time goes on, decreasing your gas mileage?

I really like the looks of the Falkens in stock size, and I do not intend to change size when I add a lift (1.5-2" at most).

Mounted Falken tires and ICON wheels

I had Falken Wildpeak LT285/70R17 AT/3W tires mounted on 17x8.5 ICON Rebound wheels and installed on the car with new Gorilla lug nuts. Bought 5 wheels and tires so the spare matches and it fits under the car easily.

The tires rub in the front a lot. I can't turn very far. I'll be doing the lift this Saturday. PM me if you want to come help me with an ICON Stage 7 lift.

The center caps were removed from the wheels for balancing and will stay off until I install the lift this weekend. If you want to help me install the Stage 7 ICON lift this Saturday here in Pasadena please send me a PM.

I bought the tires at American Tire Depot but they could not balance them on their machines. So I drove down the street to America's Tire, where they mounted and balanced them using their Hunter Road Force balancing tool. They found the high point of the wheel and tire and positioned those opposite to achieve the best balance and reduce wheel pull. Both wheel and tire are either oval or have a heavy side that must be located and optimized. They mount the tire, rotate it at high speed, find and mark the high points and then de-air the tire and pop the top bead so they can move the tire around the wheel to get the marks to line up. Then they fill the tire again, spin it and add weights as needed to balance the tire/wheel. See the Hunter website for more info.

Yes, I like them more than all the others I saw. I was looking at lighter SCS wheels without the faux "Beadlock Rim" but the price with shipping and CA sales tax was nearly 25% more. And I like the Rebound look more.

It was great talking with sales rep' Richard about his adventures in the Mojave desert around Las Vegas.

I've been looking at these tires for my truck, I wanted to get 295/55/20. But, they don't make that size. Only have 285/55/20 which hopefully isn't too small. The 305/55/20s I also thought about getting, but weighing 71 pounds a piece. I decided not too.

How many have had these tires past 15-20K thus far?
They been getting a lot of good reveiws all across on the web, but don't know much about tread life. I have these, the Toyo AT2s and Nitto Terra Grapplers G2s picked out.

What kind of truck are you talking about? You have 20" wheels, which are not great for off-road. A 305/55 is a really fat tire. Maybe go with a 285/65 or thereabouts for taller tread without all the weight? If you have a Toyota you'll want to buy my set of T4R Trail Edition stock rims. These rims are 17x7.5" . Then you could mount 275/70R17.

I had those Falkens in P rating 265/70/17 on my tacoma and absolutely loved them. Are yours P load or E load? Also, do you have spacers? I really like how your TRD OR wheels are flush with the fenders. I traded my ‘16 Tacoma for a ‘17 TRDOR 4R for more room for our new kiddo. I also live in SA TX and have a silver 2006 4Runner I take to work.

Nope. No spacers. These are stock size P-rated tires. I am extremely happy with them. I did a similar move from my 2008 Tacoma to my 2003 4Runner for the same reason. Kiddo + Wife + Dog + Junk = need more interior space.

I spent two weeks in the snow and ice in the mountains, and they performed admirably. I would say that they are doing better than my old Duratracs in the snow and ice, but the Duratracs were slightly better in mud.

Anyone else noticing with these At3W's that they don't turn 'in' snow very well? When making left/right turns at say 5-10mph it seems the lose traction really easily and the truck wants to keep going straight. I don't recall having that issue with Duratracs as much, just curious if others experienced this?

Hmm I haven’t noticed that. They have been pretty good in the snow so far. The only lost of traction I noticed really is when I have been pretty aggressive trying to the limits of the tires.

Just installed 3 weeks ago. So they're awesome. Just a bit more noise than Nitto TerraGrappler, but far better grip and look. (Realized after I posted this was a 5th gen thread. [emoji23] But tires are the same.lol

Interesting. I feels these break traction when turning, trucks wants to keep going straight. maybe I'll check my tire pressure.
