Can't say myself that I am "wowed" by it either. Kind of a mixed bag. I'll stick to my SE instead. The colored keyed grill works well for the LIMITED but somehow seeing it on a SE just looses something. It gets lost in blandness and all that is left is the hood scoop. Just my opinion. The steering wheel looks nice, kinda mixed on the seat/fabric though. I like the darker high contrast of the original SE seats. The blacked out tube steps and racks just get lost too. The HU looks out of place, almost looks like an after thought install. The X-REAS badge looks goofy as hell. Like something you'd pick up at the local speed shop or Kragen. Looks out of place...as if an SE and LTD had an illegitimate child.
Meh, I'll pass. I'll take that Shadow Mica LIMITED sitting behind the UR instead.

When I first read the title I was pumped. I wanted to see a factory 4th gen on 20s. I'm personally in favor of off road mods, but like seeing rides like Fo Sheezy's. To me it seems like the urban runner is Toyota's cheap version of Jeep's Grand Cherokee SRT8. Although I probably will always find an alternative to a Jeep, this urban runner isn't it. If Toyota is going to offer a street queen, IMO it should have the v8 as an option. Plus 18" wheels are to big to put larger tires on and not big enough to fill the wheel wells, and IMO don't look right. Jeep's SRT8 has 20" wheels and they are perfectly sized and look just right. Its like seeing a denali with their base 18s when everyone has 20" or 22" rims. If its going to be a street queen than they should've made it one.

I kinda like it, the only two gripes I would have with it are:
They could have come up with a new design for the wheel instead of reusing the Limited wheels. But they are still nice wheels.
I think also they could have lowered it some, and with the standard application of the XREAS, it could have essentially taken the same path as the SRT8, but I think it looks pretty cool. Is the only upgrade to the stereo the head unit?

I have already purchased a silver Urban Runner, which is supposed to arrive at my dealer some time between Feb 15-26 (hopefully sooner rather than later). I bought it sight unseen based on the feature list and price. At the time (a couple of weeks ago), I could not find anything about the package online. I was looking at 4Runners in general and had decided on a Sport Edition (mainly for the XREAS). Since the dealer didn't have any SEs on the lot (other than a demo, which had already been sold), I looked at the descriptions of SEs already allocated and on the way to the dealer. The description of the Urban Runner package caught my eye. Looking at the pictures, I sort of wish I had bought the white version. However, the dealer only had one silver Urban Runner on the way and I preferred the silver SR5s over the white ones. Somehow the white (at least in the pictures) looks better on the Urban Runner.
I can't wait to see it and drive it in person. Mine has a few additional options: towing package, automatic dimming mirror, double decker storage, hood protector. And I'm getting Sirius radio and the front skid plate.
I went into the dealer thinking I would get an FJ Cruiser but overall decided the 4Runner was more practical for my needs (commuting 80 miles RT in bad weather, ski trips, bicycle trips, sleeping at the trailhead, 4WD roads to Colorado trailheads, etc). I do have a VW Jetta for good weather commuting. The 4Runner is taking the place of a 2003 Tacoma with TRD offroad package. I think I've made the right decision. I hated to give up the stick shift on the Tacoma but I am getting a bit older and perhaps it's good to have at least one vehicle with automatic (my Jetta is a manual).
I like it, alot, and I don't even like 4th gens. The stereo with the removable Tom Tom navi is pretty kick ass too. I love the seats, and with the XREAS I think this vehicle has swayed me into actually liking a 4th gen. If I had the money I would not hesitate to pick one up. :bigok:

that's what i think too... the USB port is most likely used to plug an iPod and/or flash drive. in a sense, it's a stupid way to plug the iPod in as that port on the iPod is how one would charge it as well... so you either listen to the iPod or charge it... you can't do both. my Pathfinder uses the iPod headphone output that way you charge and listen to the iPod simultaneously. i know Ford's equipped with the Sync have a USB port on the inside console in which you can connect a USB flash drive.4runnerlady said:
WMA is a Windows only media file type. Mac doesn't support it unless you have Windows Media Player 9. i don't even think you can put WMA or WMV files on an iPod. you can convert the files though via 3rd party software. the stereo in the truck won't play M4As (same in my Pathy) so you'll have to convert everything into MP3s which can be a pain in the ass. cool to see another Mac user on here.

How do you figure? The harness that comes with the iPod plugs into the bottom of it and plugs into a USB port. The iPod integration unit I have that plugs into my factory headunit in my 4Runner uses the same bottom plug in on the iPod and charges it and plays my music at the same time. I wouldn't think you have to use that for the iPod though. It would more be for a USB drive with MP3s on it. The new G35 & 37 have a Compact Flash port in the dash for the same type of thing but using a Compact Flash memory card.

I love everything about it except the radio, I think they could have done a better job on that. The "Urban Runner" and "Xreas" emblems are cool, and I LOVE the seat colors and black tube steps/roof rack. I'm not a big fan of the graphite colored tubes on my sport. I think I would still wait until the 5th gens to see how they look though.

so your kit connects to an electrical port and has a separate cable that can connect to a USB port? or do you have to rewire things?

Keep in mind that I have an 02 third gen 4Runner. I don't know if it is the same for the 03+ but yes my iPod integration unit plugs into the back of my radio where a 6 disc factory changer would plug into. The other end plugs into the bottom of my iPod. The company that makes mine is called USA Spec.

At first I thought "Urban Runner" was going to be a street queen and further pussification of the lineage. But after seeing the pics it is not bad at all. It is too bad that for a new trim line they didnt go with an off-road line like the way the FJ had the TRD then the Trail Team versions.
Would I get one, No. I prefer the V8 and the factory nav.
Likes...18" limited wheels, limited grill, preforated leather wheel (the sport leather is too hard), seats (but would prefer the center to be much darker)
Dislikes...black roof and side rails (I like the graphite trim better but agree the black looks sleek), light center color of seats, badging (nothing that a good debadging cant cure) 03-05 style spoiler, chrome inside door handles.
I think the removable tom tom is a great idea and the price is right ($1760 for everything on the urban package) but for me the tom tom is too small and I would prefer the factory nav.

Just to let you all know toyota didn't design the radio, I'm pretty sure it is sold at just about every best buy and circuit city to be put in any car. I think that is why the integration looks wierd, I think toyota should have designed something similar but with better integration and it would be awsome.
