You pretty much took the words out of my head. Though i think chances of FI v6 are slim, they do have 2 v8's that i would finally trade up to if available. And what about making a 3rd row available as an optional on all trims, even if special order. My 2004 is aging and i want a new v8 in my next 4runner.
I don't voice my opinion in here very often, but i think toyota should hear what some of us want. I'm sure they see this.

I do not understand the obsession with the gadgetry people are wanting Toyota to add to the 4Runner? I know people are saying all this plastic or the lack of this for this price... Just buy a Highlander as others have of said. How about building a 4runner with limited electronics? If you want to go farther on a lone expedition then you need less dependency on the gadgetry. The 4Runner is a perfectly capable errand runner already.

Wanting a bigger motor, a more modern transmission, or a nav screen that's actually larger than an iPhone Plus display does not mean we want a Crossover.
Most of the core technology in these trucks is 7ish years old now and people, naturally, want to see an update. Trim levels and option packages should provide a mechanism for people to purchase 4Rs that are 'stripped down' if that's what they want.

Yes, want vs. need. Okay, buy a Lexus. Problem solved. It seems like that is soft enough to fill the niche. People like you will never get it. The 4Runner is the way it is now because it works.

AKA what you're saying doesn't make any sense.
There are a lot of external forces at play here - beyond Toyota's control - like CAFE regulations, safety regulations and competition, that Toyota has to react to.
Toyota has to put out a competitive product with a solid business case --- period. At this point, Jeep and everyone else is offering 300+ horsepower, blind spot monitors, big nav screens, 8 speed automatics, collision avoidance, upgraded infotainment, etc.
If Toyota keeps building 4Runners like they are now, the entire line will simply go away because people will stop buying them.
We are an enthusiast community and we probably make up 3% of the people who actually buy these rigs. There aren't enough of us for Toyota to bend to our every whim and sell "bare basics" 4Runners in the face of Grand Cherokees, Wranglers and whatever else you want to compare it to.
It sounds to me like you are very happy with your TEP, which is great. That's why you purchased it, I assume. But Toyota is quite simply going to have to do and offer more going forward. If they don't, the 4Runner name will be history.

The forces your speaking of are the ignorant people that think this gadgetry is required or is going to make you a better driver. If you want the masses to think a certain way tell them what you want them to hear. I passed on a Grand Cherokee. Took one home and could not stand all the f'ing beeping and electronic crap. I dont believe anything the corporate world is saying, but you can if you want. I notice there are 0 4Runner commercials, Jeep has top beg people via commercials to buy their product. I feel no need, as a proud driver, for the features you are desiring.
I will say it again. The 4Runner works perfectly and is bordering nanny world and is going close to being neutered with thinking like yours.

I don't get it because I want an engine/transmission combo that's not a decade old and a more usable nav screen? Let's turn back the dial to 1986 then and rip out the traction/stability control, modern engines, ABS, and Airbags. Bring back the manual locking hubs, cassette deck, 200 hp engines, and 4 speed transmissions while we're at it.
