New GOBI ladder mount, not so good

It stays in a fixed position, that beveled edge just keeps the mount from adhering to the hatch. Ill try to get a daytime photo today.

Exchanged a few emails with Paul from GOBI. He was not aware of this issue. You others that have it, if you could post some photos here I am sure it would help. Maybe we got a bad group of them

Paul just emailed me that he is going to send a new top plate. Hopefully this was a fluke, ill keep you all updated.

What kind of gap do you have towards the back? Looks to be almost as bad as mine. I plan on cutting off the bevelled edge on the new mount if it looks remotely the same. That should be flat on the hatch.

Your gap is far less than mine. Below are photos showing the scale.

I moved the top mount the entire length of the hatch. The problem with moving it down is that the other side then hits the plastic spoiler causing the same issue on the opposite side.
Moving only the bottom of the ladder does not change the gap as the gap is caused by metal on metal contact from the mount. The only fix with the current (and deemed defective by GOBI) mount is to cut the bottom off the top mount from the beveled edge forward.

Your mount is exactly how it should be. The new mount is flawed, there is no need to have a bend to back up against the spoiler. Even more so because the bend is not far enough back to allow proper contact with the hatch. Thank you for the photos!

I still think it's amazing to be able to fit something like the Gobi ladder on a truck with so many curves and still look good!
I hope you get your issues resolved so you can enjoy the product...
And post pictures once done.
I remember back in 2006 when looking for after market parts for my FJC, it was a nightmare but got much better with availability and fits with time.
So now we're all back in the same situation again with this new 5th gen but we're getting there.

I'm 99% certain his mount is the one Paul "fixed" because it was causing all of the rubbing issues. The one you and I have is supposed to be the generation after that plate.

Yours was Generation 1 for the Gobi ladder. Generation 2 was the one pictured below:
Generation 3 is the one that Brock and I currently have installed.

It would appear to me that the gen 2 is the best. Maybe they will send me one of those. If not, my buddy that does metal fab is going to cut the bevel off the new one and powdercoat it again for me.

So I am in the market now for a rack and while I like the look of the Gobi all the talk of it and the ladder not fitting properly have me very worried. Has this all been resolved for us 5th Gen TE owners? Also, can anyone advise how difficult the install process is on the 5th Gen TE's? I have factory rails now.

Goes on within a half hour or so. Mine is still not corrected, but Paul told me he was sending me another top mount. When I receive it I am going to measure it out and if my current one is bad then install it. If they are the same, I am going to cut the beveled edge off the new mount before installing.
As for the rack, many have been very happy with the GOBI rack. If you want side rails, it looks better than the full length Baja IMO. I personally liked the look of the Baja utility rack. Some have complained about communication with GOBI previously. I have had great communication with them after contacting them about the ladder issue so I would say this has changed. I would not hesitate to do business with them or recommend them in the future as they seem to really care about their product and their customers.
