No offense, but waste of time just waiting for this to load.
Bad axle seal letting gear oil mix with knuckle grease, clean it, put in a new seal, move on.

No offense but the bad axle seal does not cause the fluid grease,

Its put in there @ production,

Your told by Toyota sales that #2 grease is what is "Recommended"

this leads you to conclude that the semi fluid grease found in these axles is seal failure,

Now axle seals can, and do fail, excessive bushing wear adds to axle deflection but the situation is semi fluid grease into the third member,
turning it black and overfilling it, this is what happens over time

Your seal failure theory does not hold , Let me show you some pictures,

The over filled darkened 3rd fluid

PICT0375.jpg~original

over filled third and level of lubricant below the axle seal, Not seal failure in the aspect you describe, yes the semi fluid will get into the 3rd over time, over filling it, a bit, causes no harm,

little test

So I did a little test to see how much semi fluid grease was needed to give the gear oil the blackened appearance ,

Not Much a teaspoon in this Cup or so

Black,

Much like the Darkness your in as a result of Toyota sales "Black propaganda"

any old axle

So all you gotta do is close the Toyota book,

Look @ the thing and say okay I am primarily lubricating a CV joint, you can call it a birf if you want but its a CV joint,

Pick up any old axle and inspect the grease in it, you will find the same #1 grade and thinner grease,

This is a Honda Axle,

And your going to tell me that this is varying degrees of axle seal failure ??

No sir,

This type of grease is used in all CV joints, #1 or thinner, by every manufacture,
GKN
NSK
NTN

The Inboard boot has even thinner grease yet than the outer, closer to the Tranny and got oil in it ?

Thats what your telling me,

I have been told to stay objective, focused and not get into the pissing matches,

So just laid it all out there

So if you start pissing I cant get into it with you here, this site has been the best as far as that goes and want to keep it that way,

The Grease Grades,

The grease grades laid out, #000 on the left and #2 on the right,

Grease grades,

Not varying degrees of axle seal failure,

Wrong. You've even proved yourself wrong.
There is no reason to buy your more expensive, and lower quality grease, thats just going to leak out, when you can get better stuff, cheaper, almost anywhere, and do the job CORRECTLY, instead of your incorrect and misinformed method.

Proved myself wrong ? Interesting, Now Rixxer, I have been talking with technical writer Moses Ludel, theres a good section on his online magazine about this goop,

My correct and properly informed method of lubrication of this axle is Industry standard,
All CV joint lube from production is #1 grade or thinner,

My stuff is no more expensive than the next, it is special order,
Available thru Novak adapt,

Now you cannot present decent information other than its What Toyota tells me,

Toyota sales that is,

But hey We have folks testing this grease, in other application other than Toyota,

But glad to see your willing to come out of the Darkness Rixxer, into the light of Toyota 4 Runner forums,

There are others that are aware of the longevity that can be obtained from the factory type grease here,
and the limited troublesome operation of the advised #2 recommendation of Toyota sales,

Your grease is wrong.
Your theory is wrong.
Your method of "repairing" Toyota axles is wrong.
Your "facts" are NOT.
And you just don't get it.
AND you're LIEING THROUGH YOUR TEETH to top it off.

Wow

Your theory is wrong.
Your method of "repairing" Toyota axles is wrong.

No

Rix You dont get it you have been misinformed,

My method of servicing the Toyota axle is the same as Factory,

My Facts are Facts, yours are recommendations from the sales, dept,

How bout some facts about the Toyota pictured with semi fluid in the knuckle,
Over full 3rd member and level of grease below the axle seal

So again present some engineering facts, lubrication facts rather that personal attacks,

I know you cant, where not able to in the 6 plus months of deprogramming you underwent on the4x4network,

I even attempted to contact Toyota sales engineers to get them to comment on their obvious error in the FSM

Nothing,

Now in conversing with long time technical writers when obvious errors are in the recommendations of manufactures, or sales dept in this case they will simply omit the info, or use terms such as "Suitable Grease" (this is what the all data folks say)

So Rix, A #2 grease is not suitable for a CV joint, or @ least that is what NTN NSK and GKN go by

Now these Birfs are NTN they do not use a #2 grease for any other CV joint they build,

#2 grease comes from the Sales Dept of Toyota

As Well as a #0 recommendation for the steering link,

Ever used a #0 grease,,, Doubt it, ever seen a #0 grease

Sure you have, in the drain pans of the rigs your fixing for axle seal failure,,

Sales engineering @ its finest,

Dupe even the tech working on the rig,,,, So Rixxer continue to insult, call me a liar, but I understand nothing to back it up but a book written by Toyota Sales ....

Eco Seal my ass

Your grease is wrong.

Mr Bobbie Long,

Would you comment on the grease if I sent you samples,

I can send a sample of the RCV #1 grade CV joint lube,

I can send a sample of both #1 and # 0 grease used for this axle,

Toyota aside, this lube is specified for the domestic DANA axle, by manufactures,

I can and will send samples if you will comment on them or just look at it,

This situation pisses me off to no end, once I had a Toyota service manager or writer or sales man whatever you want to call them,
Think that this was funny, I do not think it is funny for a Toyota salesman to tell me to use a incompatible grease,

So I will continue to work at this until somebody wises up to this sales scheme.

It would be a hell of a lot easier if you where to look at this,

At least specifie what RCV folks do a #1 grade grease,

Frank

So he was right, did not do any good, wonder why ?

Did not think he could do anything before he even looked @ the samples,,

get the popcorn

Holy crap.

I'll get the popcorn.

Sure sit back and watch and eat popcorn Rixxer can put up quite a fight,

It is not going to be easy by any stretch, should be a good show,,

You know what would help Rixxer is to get a sample of this stuff and see that #1 it dont leak,

I ship them off all the time, call them "Grease Bombs "

This would help,

Do you have a solid axle Rig,,, if not thats okay been sticking this in open knuckle Domestic rigs, no problems,

So the IFS set up would contain it just fine as well,,

Frank

next step,

this picture CLEARLY shows contaminated gear oil.
'nuff said.

Sure nuff said Rixxer,

It is contaminated gear oil,

Now contaminated from A #2 grease, or a Thinner form of lube used in production,

Very good Rixxer, your beginning to see, the picture clearly shows contaminated gear oil,

But from what ? a self leveling fluid grease or what the sales team tells you #2

So this is the ? Nuff said , lets move on, you have obtained step 1 "Master of the Obvious" on this one,

Good job

Consumer Grade

That's it, frank. End of story.
That, in and of itself, proves your entire theory bogus.
Move on.

What,,

No way, not the end of the story, Contaminated from WHAT? consumer Grade #2 lithium or,

Proprietary semi fluid factory lube,,,

The one that lasts for 30 plus years, cant move on Rixxer, stuck right here,

Contaminated from What Rixxer,,,:satan:

There is no such thing.

Why don't you stop trying to use Kurt's words for your benefit? ESPECIALLY since it's irrelevant, not true, and kinda dumb.

Contaminated from What Rixxer,,,:satan:

Contaminated from what? Are you serious?

Contaminated from What ?

Contaminated from what? Are you serious?

Dead serious Rixxer,

From What a Semi fluid grease , self leveling that will make it past the axle seal and baffle a heck of a lot easier than the #2 the sales dudes tell you is put in there,

So really Rixxer if you look @ the rig I posted pictures of, with low level of fluid grease in the knuckle That

The axle seal failed, allowed gear oil in the knuckle, mixed with the supposed #2 grease thinned it out, then back into the third,

Then the axle seal fixed itself,,,

No,

You need a wake up call, and this is it
