Hey, I just bought a '03 4WD V8 Sport. SN is 2384, so it was an early one. Pics will come when it comes back from the toyota dealer.

I bought it at a manheim (dealers only) auction, so i couldn't drive it prior to buying it. I got it home and tried 4lo. It went in ok, but would not come out. Toyota is now replacing the transfer case actuator. $2500 for parts + labor. Ouch. I may have been able to bang on the xfer case and get it to come back out, but i want everything working.

I currently own a gs300 and a camry. Anyway, I have a background in electrical engineering, so I hope I'll be able to contribute.

Welcome from another new guy. Looks like I'm going to have to put mine in LO to see if it comes out.

Welcome. I just bought mine recently as well. I am finishing up my electrical engineering degree in May. It's definitely the way to go.

Just be careful when putting it on 4LO. From what I've read 4LO is meant for speeds of less than 30MPH. Additionally, I wouldn't suggest switching from 4HI/2HI to 4LO on the fly...I would stop, place vehicle on PARK or NEUTRAL then switch to 4LO. Just my .02

I'm sure others can chime in...I'm no expert :D

Oh and yeah...WELCOME! :bigok:

The V8 models with 4WD are strictly full time 4WD, right? V6's have the option of selecting between 2 and 4.

I agree with the post above about how you are supposed to engage into 4lo but 30 mph is way to fast for that setting, I think it should only be used 15mph or lower,

And yes v8 is full time and v6 can be switched

4H to 4L or vice versa, cannot be done on the fly. You have to be fully stopped and in neutral to complete the change. If not, it'll just continuously beep and flash the indicator lights.
