New guy with a question

Hello all, great forum. I was hoping someone could shed some light on what may be a potential issue. I'm not really familiar with the ride on these trucks, so here goes.

I just recently got a 2012 which I absolutely love. Nice truck feel, sturdy, roomy for a big guy, but I noticed a slight vibration when I am backing up and I am turned to either the right or the left. This only happens when I hit the gas, like a slipping sensation. Sometimes it happens when I am turning right or left when I go forward.

I've had cars before with transmission issues, and it vaguely feels like that something in the tranny or the rear end. It's a 4x4, which I've never owned before.

I only have 33k miles on it, so it's under warranty, I just wanted to see if there's anything I should be looking for.

Might be the ABS. I notice the ABS has a really high tendency to kick in when going in reverse, especially while turning and going a bit off camber or over a small bump exactly as if you were backing out of a driveway. You feel a short half second or so vibration.

This was my guess...
 
I suppose I should have been a tad clearer and say it's possibly the traction control (which uses the ABS). You don't have to be on your brakes. When turning sharp there is a difference in the speed of the tires from right to left and I think that brings the traction control very close to kicking in if you goose it or go over even a small bump or dip it seems sometimes.

Happens almost always backing out of my driveway...
 
This used to happen all the time on the 07 T4R SE I had. Literally never failed as I backed out of the driveway and turned the wheel hardover to the left. A quick engage of the traction control, and it was done. I believe it was the system thinking one of the tires was losing the road, albeit briefly...

But going forward...that has me thinking there's something else afoot. I mean, you'd really have to be laying on the gas to get the car to think the traction isn't there in those front wheels. From what I'm reading in the OP's post, that doesn't sound like it's the case.

The only other thing I can think of that I used to feel in my other T4Rs was the slight buzzing you would feel in your feet from the ABS pump/system (brake booster) intermittently working. It was a pretty substantial noise in my 3rd gen, but I haven't noticed it so much in the more recent models...
 
Thanks for all the help, all love these forums. Back when I was a old mercedes diesel fanatic, I learned and shared quite a bit.

1 - it's a limited. It's either full time 4wd or AWD, don't know that there's much difference.

2 - For those of you who have driven a stick, it feels like a slipping/worn out clutch.

3 - There is nothing going on in the brake pedal, I'm familiar with how ABS works.

4 - I live in miami and we have very few hills, but I've noticed it's more pronounced when the car has been sitting and the front is slightly lower that the back and I go in reverse, I will check fluid tomorrow.

5 - There are no lights on on the dash at all indicating anything is amiss.

It's your traction control. Turn hard one way or another and accelerate faster than you normally do. You'll see the TCS light flicker. Do it again, but accelerate very slowly. This time the light won't come on and you won't feel it. It's normal. Don't worry about it.
 
Just tried with traction control on and off. Same thing. like I mentioned earlier, it like a clutch skipping, if you floor it, it's not as noticeable, but it's very noticeable when you just tap the glass for about 1 second.
 
So, it's not as noticeable if you accelerate faster than normal? If you're at full lock, you may be feeling the torsen center differential engaging. This is also normal.
 
I'm going to try and go to the dealer on Friday. It's full time 4wd unless I am complely missing something.

Maybe I'll get lucky at the dealer and be able to ride in another one to compare.
