So I'm back in the Toyota game tomorrow. Pick up my TR4 TEP (I have lurked enough to get the lingo down). Tried a Subaru outback XT, and it sure was fast but even with my over the top maintence it's clapped out at 126000. Disappointing for sure and don't ever see another Subby in my future.
Anyway I am an off-roader and have owned a couple of Toyota trucks (85 and 91). I have a 2002 Ranger FX4 level 2 with a few mods and it is a great truck. I am sure I am going to have a ton of questions as the days go by and I am not really sure how these forums work.
My first question of many is can I turn off all the 4wd drive nannies so I can actually drive it off-road? It doesn't have KDSS, it seemed like it would be one more thing to go wrong since I hope to have this truck forever! BTW does anyone want to buy a kidney so I can afford this thing? I'd sell my liver but it processed way to many chemicals in college to be any good! Ha, ha.

One last question for the day, does anyone make sway bar disconnects for this truck?

Can't be 100% sure on TE but on my SR5 I have two buttons:

If you are offroading in 4 high on dunes or washes where you /want/ to kick out the tail for fun you can turn off the traction control.

If in 4 low, there is also a switch to turn off the A-TRAK. Though in most cases performance is a lot better with it on going slow over rough and especially uphill rocky or gravely terrain. So experiment with them in various situations

I find myself referring to the manual anyrime theres a chance I may push one of those buttons or turn one of those knobs. Feels like the batmobile sometimes. Or like I'm arming a weapons system...

2 Hi and 4 Hi - push and hold the trac button, first it will turn off traction control, then 3 seconds later VSC is off.

4 Low -- all this is off when the transfer case is shifted into 4 Low.

If you turn on Multi-Terrain you get a variable traction control from loose to tight. Not sure where ATRAC fits in with MT but only one can be used at a time. I think of MT as a variable ATRAC.

There are indicators in the dash to show what is on or off, but it can be confusing with all the symbols.

Physical disconnects? Yes, if my post-chemicalized brain remembers correctly, I saw a post a while back, I will edit when I find it.

Mike [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] makes them. Give him a holler. I have the double disconnects on mine

Thanks to everyone. Was suppose to pick it up today but it isn't here yet. Ready to have a new truck I can take in the high country!

Man those discos look sweet thanks. Much better than the janky ones I made for my old 91 truck years ago. I'll get a hold of him at some point.

As I have started to take a look around on the site, just about anything I have a question for has already been asked.
