New GY Authority Tires!

My Firestone Destinations held up fine for 50,000 miles, but they started to get squirrely in the rain, so it was time for new shoes. I have spent some time researching tires on here and other sites and finally bought a set of Goodyear Authority tires (265-70-17E), yes from WalMart!
The tires have an aggressive tread pattern and a very thick sidewall and are a lot cheaper than the Duratracs. I have read very few negative comments about this tire or side wall issues. I was a little concerned about the E rated tire, but it is worth the piece of mind when off road or towing my camper.

I can`t give much of a review because I only have about 30 miles on them, but they show no signs of wear
My Destinations were a C load tire and the ride is not much different, no issues with a harsh ride. I have the air pressure set at 40psi and I will experiment with air pressure settings for daily driving. The tires are very quiet on the highway, which really surprised me for such an aggressive tread pattern.

I am not going to offer much more information up due to the low mileage that I have on them, but they look great and the first impression is really promising.

I will get some pictures up soon and I will get to test them out next week on the trails in GreenRidge State forest, the trails should be pretty sloppy.

Thought about these myself, but it doesn't look like they come in 285. Looking forward to hearing your review on them and seeing some pictures.

The ORV trails are closed, but there are still some area`s that have some nice trails. They are not hard core off road trails, but are just fine to have some fun on.

Yes they have the mountain snowflake on the sidewall. When I get home from work I will snap a couple of pics.

My drive to work is about 20 miles on the interstate and I did hear the tires a little bit, but it was not bad at all. Any tire with a tread pattern like this is going to make more noise than something like a Destination or Silent Armour.
The tire noise in my opinion is a non-issue, I am very pleased with the tires so far, all 50 miles. The noise from the roof rack is louder than the tires will ever be.

I'd be careful with those tires in mud. The tread pattern doesn't look like it'll self clean too well and they don't have very aggressive side lugs from what I can see in the picture.

They look generally about as aggressive as duratrac to me, especially in the shoulder.

I'm very interested to hear your real world long term review, those tires have always caught my eye when strolling through walmart, they sure look great!

And if my memory serves me right, you were the ones that went around uhhh "fingering" all the different tires at your local tire center? So just out of curiosity, do these sidewalls feel that much thicker/stiffer as compared to the Duratracs?

I paid approx. $890.00 mounted and balanced. They actually did a nice job with the balancing and they actually used a torque wrench. I bumped up the air pressure to 44psi and that seems to be the best so far.

The sidewall is very substantial and should take plenty of abuse. I don`t think it`s fair to compare it to the load C Duratrac because of the difference in load rating. I was not impressed with the Duratrac(C) when I fingered it in the store, it felt very thin and I would never use that tire on my truck. I was never able to compare it to the E rated version, which I here is fine.

No steering wheel shimmy?
Seems an issue with this truck ...... Not to thread hijack .....
I dumped the dumplops for kumho sat 61's and have the shimmy....

The whitewall lettering is on the inside.
The truck drives and tracks straight, no shimmy, no shake.
The tire is listed as an All Terrain tire, but I would say it is an aggresive AT tire.

Ah...now I remember why I ruled these out. You could have gotten the tried and true Duratracs for that price. I just bought 285 duratracs and had them mounted and balanced for $1132. $120 in rebates from Goodyear and another $40 through my work....$972 respectively. 265s would have been $75-$100 less....

Where did you have mounted? I just looked on walmarts website and they are selling the tires for $170 each ($680 for 4 tires). Just wondering how you got to almost $900...?

That being said, they do look pretty darn good!

BTW, truck is looking real nice sir, I just noticed how well the add-on door moldings match rest of the factory painted moldings, it flows very well together!
