There are clearly a ton of threads about this tire on the fifth gen 4Runner but I thought I'd add my ten cents.
On Saturday I got a set of 265/70/17 duratracs mounted on my 12 Trail and followed that with an alignment. The truck has no other mods. I spend about 5% of my time in the dirt with lots of rocks on jeep trails with my family in the car. No serious rock crawling, just adventures for camping/hiking. Not a lot of highway driving. Truck will only see snow on ski trips a handful of times per year.
Other tires considered: BFG KOs, GY Silent Armor, Michelin LTX AT2.
Why DuraTracs? I went with them based on their offroad reputation and tire rack survey results. I was torn between these, the BFGs, and the SA. The Mich I decided didn't have the strength of the duratracs and I really didn't want to change a tire on the trail.
Noise: there is definitely more than stock, but it isn't obnoxious. You will hear them though.
Look: wow. The entire character of the truck has changed - very aggressive.
Handling: while I think they are balanced okay, as others have reported there does seem to be a little fidgeting with them based on road condition. Steering seems more precise though, which might have more to do with the alignment.
Nose dive: slightly less - the load rating is 'C'
This weekend will be the first offload foray with them - I have no doubt they will exel.
I'll follow up as time goes by but as of right now it certainly seems like my expectations have been met.
