New Highlander... Am I seeing things?

. My mother looked at the sticker price on the first one, and it was nearly $40,000. Then she walked over to the next one and the sticker read $21,000. I looked again and she was reading the sticker from a black Rav4, not a Highlander. It's amazing how similar the two vehicles look, even in person.

$40,000?!?!?! What freakin Highlander cost $40,000?!?!?!?! You can get a new, loaded Sequoia for cheaper than that!!!!!

That is freakin ridiculous!!! I wouldnt pay that for a Hybrid Highlander even if it got 50mpg!!! It's not worth that much! Maybe if it was a freakin Lexus, or Audi, but not a Toyota!!!

I was not a fan of the newer gen of the 4Runners. What happened to SUV = rugged. I guess if I ever purchase another SUV, it will have to be in the Land Rover / BMW side.

Sorry buddy, I don't see how the BMW X3 or X5 can be placed in the same sentence with "rugged". Even BMW isn't proud to enough to call them SUVs and coined SAV, sports activity vehicle. In other words, a lifted 3 and 5 series AWD wagon. The Freelander, give me a break. I rather have an Escape.

For a performance crossover, IMO, the Audi Q7 is the ticket.

Personally I Like the New Highlander and the New Land Cruiser! The Highlander is a Cross over, its not really as much of offroading vehicle like the 4Runner. So I think the new look suits it well. The New Land Cruiser looks better than the ugly body style they have had for the past 15 years. As much as I hate to say it the new 4Runner will probably be right in line those as well. I was hoping for a more rugged look,but Toyota is probably looking at the fact that now the buyer ratio is about 50/50 Male to Female for almost all there vehicles. Especially the 4runner. The new FJ Cruiser is built more for the offroader!! Thats just the way that the market is now.That more rounded clean look is the new style. Look at the SAAB 9-7x,Audi Q7 Infiniti FX, Hyundai Santa Fe & Veracruz(Not that the Hyundai really compares), and Lexus SUV's They all are more rounded now.

:iagree: for what it is, the Highlander isn't bad. If I wanted a crossover, I give the Highlander a strong consideration. I didn't like it when I saw the pictures, but in person it's pretty nice. I'm going to reserve judgement for the Land Criuser and LX570, since I've been wrong about the new Highlander and the original as well. I say the Mazda CX-9 is pretty nice too.

But as of now, my #1 crossover is the Audi Q7. It looks so balanced maintaining its look between sport and utilility, unlike BMW SAVs which looks like bloated wagons.

A Limited AWD with the navigation system, rear-seat DVD, moonroof, and all the other misc. options (power rear hatch, rear AC, heated seats, spoiler, etc.) stickers around $40K.

I priced out a 2008 Highlander Limited 2WD with the CD changer, Bluetooth, power rear door, rear auto AC, and spoiler and it's just over $35K.

Compared to a 4Runner V6 2WD Limited equipped the way I'd want it (XREAS, side airbags, JBL changer, spoiler), the Highlander Limited comes out about $1K less.

That's a smaller gap than with the previous generation Highlander. I think the last time I priced it out, a Highlander Limited was around $2K cheaper than a 4Runner Limited (again, both equipped with the options I'd want).

Interestingly, I recommended the '08 Highlander to one of my coworkers who currently has a previous generation Sienna. She thought it was "too trucky" for her tastes.

If I was seriously considering one of the crossover SUV's, I'd certainly be looking to stay with the Toyota family. The RAV4 and Highlander each have very strong merits. The Land Cruiser has been a classic for years, too; that's Toyota biggest SUV. I thought about Highlander and even RAV4 before I bought the 4Runner, but I liked the 4Runner better.

I don't think this thread is disparaging any of the individual models, but rather the fact that they all look alike when you put them side-by-side. Toyota needs more creativity on the exterior deisgn, and each model should be distinctive for its own reasons. The last thing you want to do is create the impression that one model is the same thing as another model but just in a different size.

Well given Toyota's lack of imagination, my guess it will look like a bloated Tundra.

I say the front will be a Tundra CrewMax and rear part will look some of the other spy shots posted in the other thread.

i saw a new Highlander on the road recently and it looked ok except for the back end...yikes.

someone commented on the looks of the 4th Gen T4Rs and i have to agree. owning a 3rd + 4th Sport Editions, the 3rd Gen looked so much 'meaner' and more 'truck like' than my 4th Gen (imo of course). even the old lady rags on me for driving what she calls a 'bread van'. :bash:

whatever toyo's may lack in looks, they make up with reliability, bang-for-the-buck, performance, etc. they get ragged on for their 'vanilla' styling anyway throughout various forums and blogs, it's nothing new.

if the next gen T4R looks similar to what these newer SUVs look like i may make the jump to a German make truck.

Y'all seen the new Toyota Vanguard? JDM only for now. Based on an extended RAV4 chassis. The price range fits between the RAV4 and Highlander. I like the name though.

I don't have high hopes for the next 4runner. They just keep getting lower and lower. Maybe they should just call it a Mallrunner. I have a feeling that I'll end up with a FJ in 2009.

The Highlander actually looks much bigger than the RAV4 in person, plus the interior material on the Highlander is almost Lexus like.
