New Install Almost Done !!!

I am getting close to having my stereo finished so I thought I would post some pictures. It has been a while since the last install, so I really enjoyed this one. Making it all work is half the fun.

Head Unit: Alpine IVA-W200 w/ PAC and IPOD control (flush mounted)
Front Speakers: JL Audio XR653-CS 3-Way Component (kick panel and door)
Subwoofer: JL Audio 13W6V2 in ported enclosure (Fiberglass ported enclosure)
Sub Amp: JL Audio 500/1 w/RBC-1

I've done a lot of reading in the forums to see what others have done, and used the forums for ideas.

I thought I would contribute back so others could enjoy.

Nice work! A few questions. First, the kick panel speaker grilles, what are they made of? I'd be afraid of putting a steel toe boot through them. Second, how much of a difference does the Dynamat make? Is it used to eliminate vibration due to thunderous bass or to quiet the cabin from wind and outside noises?
 
The dynamat does reduce road noise. The truck is much quieter inside. This results in me not having to turn the stereo up quite as loud to overcome the noise.

The Dynamat in the doors makes a huge difference in the way the door speaker
 
Holy crap, you went all out!!! Sweet!! Thats the same head unit I'm looking at, basically for the DVD feature and that it has it's own screen (want to add screens to the headrests for the kids, and it would allow us to see what they see and to set the movies easier)

Do you have any pics of your mount mods to make it flush mount, and what mount you used, aftermarket, if any??
 
I didn't take any pictures of the head-unit mounting.

I can't remember what the kit is. It is basically two plastic strips for along the sides.

For the most part I just drilled new mounting holes in the bracket and slid the head-unit back about an inch.

Are the two black strips along the sides of the HU the face of the mounts? It looks like the left one is a bit pushed in towards the HU at the bottom, and the right one has a crack in it?

I have found that Metra makes a 2 DIN HU mount kit, is this the kit you used? I really love how that HU looks in there, and how you got it flush mounted.

Lastly, doe the screen on the IVA-W200 flip down and retract?? I've read on other descriptions that it has a "motorized screen" and thought originally it was a fixed screen until I saw that. Any pics you could post of it retracting if it does??

Like others in the forum that have complained, the metra kit kind of sucks, but I don't know of any other that works. I may have to custom fab some strips that look and fit better. I haven't decided if I care enough.

The black strips bolt on to the sides of the factory brackets. They don't fit overly tight, and can kind of float aroung a bit. The right one has a mark that looks like a crack, but it wiped off.

The screen folds out to reveal the DVD slot, but it doesn't retract. Alpine has a singe DIN unit that has a screen that flips out. The folding down and back up is motorized though.

As a side note when you mount the head unit that deep in the dash you can run into issues with the head unit touching the venting in the dash. It is also takes a little time to tuck all the wiring back in so it doesn't get in the way.
 
Cool thanks. If you want some carbon fiber sheeting to trim the sides with, give me some dimensions and I'll send you some.

I have some excess trim from when I was molding UAV's with a govt. funded private company, where I molded all parts of the plane from carbon fiber, some kevlar, and a tiny bit of fiberglass. Not many pieces of flat straight carbon fiber on the plane lol. But yeah if you want some side trims to cover up the irregularities of the the Metra kit, I'll cut you out a couple pieces for your help.

Nice install!! I've done similar installs and it can be trying on your nerves, but it's very worth it...plus you save serious coin doing it yourself.



Btw, to the guy asking about the Dynamat...it's shocking how much difference the stuff makes. I didn't believe it until I used it on my car. It's well worth the cost and the effort IMO.
