This kit allows you to have full function with text and steering wheel control integration. It has some features you don't even have with the iPod. This unit is plug and play with OEM connectors that plug directly into the head unit. There are similar kits that cost $300. I wonder how well it works!

i guess the steering wheel control is the big thing

i had an Alpine ipod interface in my last car ...and that cost $99........and i HATED the interface with the Alpine head unit. SLOW as hell.

i actually prefer controlling the ipod via its own scroll wheel as opposed to the head unit. The oem head unit itself only displays so much text...

I always just burn the MP3s to a CD for my 07.

$170 would buy a heck of lot blank of CDs.

Are you sure the USA Spec unit is the Apple approved solution mentioned in the article? It isn't listed on the Apple website as an approved option and if the Crutchfield information is correct it isn't compatible with my 2006 4Runner with my factory JBL radio.

Yes, you can with a male to male mini-plug cable. However, you won't get iPod "integration", which is ability to control the iPod through the factory headunit and steering wheel controls.
