New Jersey to Vermone Trip

Looking for some input on anyone that has gone from central NJ to Vermont. Im going with a couple friends of mine to my buddies house in Vergennes Vermont. Google maps says is a 5.5 hour drive about 300 miles.

How is the drive in general? Lot of cops? How is the scenery and do you have any advice?

nj to vt

the drive from nj to vt isnt too bad. it will take you all of that to get up to vt. through ny just be careful. you will be on the NY thruway and then through albany and probably to the northway. the drive is nice and simple and scenic but NY state troopers are everywhere and they are ruthless. the speedlimit for most of it is 65 and doing 75 is okay. any over that and you are screwed. keep that in mind. there is usually a state trooper at one of those turn arounds between the lanes. they are sneaky. i've yet to get pulled over and i make teh trip pretty regularly. drive safe and have fun!

GSP all the way North to Route 87 North on towards Montreal.

As LBeard87 said - easy ride for the most part. NY State troopers can be a PIA, especially considering the state budget deficit.

Eat BEFORE you leave - the rest areas aren't that great, the food is not good at all.

Time-wise, mapquest is probably right. Enjoy the scenery once you get off 87 onto local roads.

ny to vt

also, just an fyi if you need gas or anything from a rest stop, they are about 40 miles at a clip and exits are spaced out at about 15-20 miles a clip. traffic isn't bad midweek. may catch some traffic if you are coming back on a sunday evening as everyone and their brother is gonna be getting back to westchester and New York City.

Im expecting it to be around 6hrs - they are expecting snow so it might be longer. Should be fun though.
