I recently replaced a broken key cover/housing with the original key/circuitry/battery. Now the key will not start the vehicle.
To make things weirder, if I start the vehicle with another fully original key, turn off the vehicle, then immediately crank with the key with the replacement cover/battery, it will turn over but only stay started for about 2-3 seconds, then die.
If I attempt starting with the replacement cover key multiple times, then the original key has a hard time starting the vehicle and takes a few tries.
Does anyone know why the new cover or battery would keep the key from starting the vehicle and what I can do to fix it? I don’t want to pay the $240 fee for a Toyota tech to look at it or the over $500 for a replacement key.
