Well okay some locksmiths are to cheap to spring for the code machine it is a couple thousand dollars. But most locksmith that are bigger then a hole in the wall will have the machine. It's hard for them to justify a code machine for a vehicle that's 14 years old so they spring for the newer machines that have a higher probability of customers coming in. Every vehicle out there save bmw's land rover, Lexus, Mercedes and some year mazda's ( go figure). I'm forgetting a few but it doesn't matter, a locksmith can do it if they are a big enough company to buy the equipment.
Our trucks, are not new enough to have the technical systems of today's cars. Never, ever, should a cost of programming our keys be more then $60 at the very most. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Now, if it were something like a new Honda or new toyota it will be more like 250-300 and once again that's mainly the cost of the key, the programming should only run around $100 but that's not for or trucks we have an easy system for them and so it really cheap!
Believe what you may, but I'd never deal with a locksmith that's not associated with AAA. They put very high standards in place for there sub contractors and so you can be assured you are getting a trust worthy company! If you don't believe me just google locksmith scams, and you'll understand!
