I guess I'm in the minority. I love it. The spindle grille is better looking here. I do HATE how automotive manufactures are going for the "aftermarketing looking " infotainment screens. Looks like crutchfields wet dream. Anyway, definate improvement over the previous generation.

It doesn't scream "Luxury Land Cruiser to me..." rather "I'm a bloated NX! " which for an SUV you're gonna drop near 100k for, should not be the first thing that comes to mind...

At least the previous gen tried to look similar to the LC200 so you felt like it was an upgraded version...

My understanding was that it was replicated from what it was built like back in the day. Which meant that emissions and crash safety weren't up to snuff for the American market (as well as demand and so on.)

I could be wrong since I don't have a whole lot of information on those beauties...

After 2016 model year, there is no more GX460; it's been replaced with a TX crossover.

The G Wagon sells about 275 units per month. That's nearly entire due to MB being a "status symbol" and considered a "luxury" brand with all that comes with it.

The current 200-Series Land Cruiser sells about 1/2 that many in the states per month, around 150-175. I guarantee the 70 Series wouldn't sell 1/5th that many in the states. The 200 series already has way beyond the capabilities that 99.9% of the public use it for.

As much as enthusiast ***** about wanting something purpose built, they rarely buy it. They wanted a small, inexpensive, RWD, manual sports car. We got one and it's sales have been mediocre. And of those sales, most were by by flat brimmed hat/vape crowd, not enthusiasts.

Not to derail the conversation, but the FR-S is a chintzy, underpowered, poorly assembled SUBARU.

Even Subaru thinks it sucks and any of their turbo sedans and hatchbacks can easily dust it.

Toyota has no idea what they're saying when they ***** "see we made a cheap RWD sports car and no one wants to buy it."

The FT86 was doomed by its crappy engine, crappy QC, crappy Prius tires, and horrendous marketing strategy. Every Toyota dealership who got their hands on one marked it up 5k, so anyone looking at one got a WRX or Mustang.

Toyota can't sell/market worth a shit and the behavior of their dealerships when they have something "rare" is downright criminal.

Some poster was *****ing about Eastern Shore toyota luring buyers to their showroom because they have a white TRD PRO (OMG!!!111_!), then marking up the **** out of it, claiming they have buyers lined up long and deep...

The damn thing was still there this week when I swung by to reset a tire sensor warning. Some douchebag salesman was driving it to the gas station and back, trying to show off how badass he is in a car he doesn't own:|

The U.S. Land Cruiser is still powered by Toyota’s prolific 5.7-liter V8, with 381 horsepower and a healthy 401 lb-ft of torque. That’s ditching the old six-speed in favor of an eight-speed automatic which Toyota promises will improve acceleration and fuel economy.

The 2015 truck was EPA rated to 13 MPG city, 18 highway and 15 combined, but the new one’s rated to... 13 city, 18 highway, 15 combined. Well, maybe real world results will be better. And there’s still all that acceleration to look forward to!


The Land Cruiser’s infotainment software is also being upgraded, and is supposed to link up with your iPhone and Siri a lot more easily now. A new suite of safety features like pedestrian warning, lane keeping, collision avoidance will be standard to help us focus on what matters most.

But the truck’s off-road tech sounds a whole lot cooler. Here’s a breakdown of everything the Land Cruiser has... it’s a long list:

Full-time 4WD with a two-speed transfer case (low range)


TORSEN limited-slip locking center differential: distributes torque 40:60 front:rear, and directing power to wheels with grip.

Active Traction control (A-TRAC): uses throttle andbrakes to manage wheel spin.

Vehicle Stability Control (VSC): maintains directional control during cornering.

CRAWL Control: regulates engine speed and power output along with braking force to drive in one of five “driver-selectable low-speed settings.” It’s basically off-road cruise control, turn it on and all you do is steer.

Downhill Assist Control (DAC): Helps low-range descents even further by acting maintaining speed on steep drops.

Hill-start Assist Control (HAC):

Multi-Terrain Select system: allows driver to match wheel slip control to driving conditions.

Multi-Terrain Monitor: a set of cameras that beam a “near” 360º view of the truck to the infotainment screen, including a “five-second front undercarriage projected path video playback.”

And finally; Off-Road Turn Assist: literally tightens the Land Cruiser’s turning radius “by applying slight brake pressure to the inside rear wheel, creating a pivot effect.”

edit: The Lexus, not the LC. LC actually looks kinda nice. Except for the passenger screens. Too big, too obtrusive, too prone to getting scratched to hell. Just throw in a couple tablets with the purchase and save all the BS.

I would venture a guess that a very small percentage of 200 series LCs will leave pavement before their first set of tires wear out.
