New Magnetic Gray TE with 285/70/17 Terra Grapplers

Just picked up my new Trail Edition here in Reno. After 3 hours I got them to finally come to 1k over invoice with a good price on my trade. I went straight to discount like you guys said to do, and they gave me $75 a piece on my tires trade in. They mounted up the 285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers and showed me just a touch of rub at full lock on the inner plastic fender. It only rubs by maybe 1/4 of an inch, and honestly its so small Im not even worried about it. I will probably do a leveling lift in a month or so once I find rims I like. Thats tough, coming from a race car with lightweight racing rims! I just cant seem to find anything I like!

Race car was fun, I had her brand new with 4 miles off the lot. Did a ton of racing but just havent had the time/money to do it lately. Since I moved to Reno from Vegas I have really gotten into alot more hunting and fishing, so the 4R is just way more practical. Im happy! Heres some pics:

It sounds like you are the first to put 285/70R17 with no lift. I want to know how the rubbing is with the level kit on. Thats the route i am thinking of going but was going to use 275/70/17s.

i wonder if it will rub if you add the front height adjustable bilstein 5100s. This would level it i believe. I'm in same bout not crazy about the "truck" wheels. I'm a bbs man myself coming from a bmw m3. I have seen some pics on the internet with FJ and others running Volks on their trucks. but that seems a bit crazy to me. I think a good solution would be the TE wheels, powdercoated dark grey would be cool without the clunky center caps. The FUEL wheels on the baja 500 4runner looked cool. Have you seen those?

4RunnerTrail - My evo came with BBS's stock, and I sold those when I bought my Advan RS's. Im selling those right now, 600 bucks a rim was pricey but still getting top dollar for em hehe. I also had a set of stock enkeis with snow tires I traded the car in with, and Enkei NT03+M's with 275/40/17 v710 racing slicks I have for sale as well. Im a huge rim whore lol. I'll have to check out the Fuel's you were talking about, Ive seen a few of their styles and wasnt a big fan. Im either looking at some XD's or ProComps, both in flat black so far. Should be on within a month or so once I decide.

Mike - That looks kick ass man, thanks for the photoshop! Im definitely going with the front leveling kit. Pretty much just decided on the 5100's, adjustable front and will pick up the rears as well. Need to do some searching on here to see what I can find but so far have seen nothing but good reviews.

Just front (to level front only, or will ride better to add rears so springs match front and rear in handling)? or rears too?

Im just putting fronts on to level. They are built specifically for stock springs. They are pretty awesome shocks from what I have read. A whole lot of FJ's run them.

I might think about purchasing rears / Toytec coils eventually but I'm just sticking with these for now and adjusting them to the 1.5" setting to level.

I read a crazy ton of info on the 5100's as well. I even read 20 some pages on the tacoma forum where the guys were talking about em, nothing but good things. I want to replace shocks all around because I heard it does improve the stiffness going with the rears as well, performed a bit better off road they said. Can just use stock coils.

My other question is I have a buddy with a set of FJ coils from his 4x4, wonder if those work or any benefit from using those instead of our stockers? Did some searching but couldnt find anything about using them on the 5th gen.

4runnertrail, a buddy of mine told me they were running TE-37's on off road trucks, thats the first pic Ive seen with that setup lol. It looks good, but what Im concerned about is bending or scuffing them since they are aluminum racing wheels. I do plan on doing some light off roading, just to get to camp sites or out hunting, but nothing too drastic. Not rock crawling by any means, but I want a rim that will hold up to that and doesnt cost 600 bucks in case it needs replacing =P

I have the LT's, thats all that size comes in. Ive been in Canada for the past two weeks, so I bought my truck and drove it for two days before it went in the garage and I came here for work lol. The time I spent driving them around was nice, they seem just as quiet as the stock tires and didnt notice them being stiff. Then again Im coming from a car that had SUPER stiff track suspension that was bordering on a track only setup. Im used to stiff and bumpy, this truck is way soft in comparison lol

Let me know if you find out any more info. I'd give up having the beadlock system for some weight. i can't justify 50 lb wheels, plus the tires i want, toyo MTs are a good 15-20 lbs heavier than stock. all that weight would crush our engine.

Very heavy and VERY expensive. $425 per rim. If you needed beadlock really bad, I could totally see spending that. But that price for no real benefit to the normal camper/fisherman/hunter that doesnt plan on rock climbing like myself, ouch. I paid 600 a rim for my Advan RS's on my old car because they were extremely light, 17lbs each in 18's, and they were used on race tires. Really cant justify spending that much on rims Im going to beat up on rocks...

Finally made a decision on rims! 17x9 Black Rhino Sidewinders in Matte Black. They do rub a bit more then stock on those inner fender bulges, but no spacers or anything needed. They ordered the wrong center caps, I wasnt into the chrome ones. They have black ones that should be in this weekend but I wanted to put them on anyway. These are +12 offset, not sure on the backspacing they never listed it anywhere.
