whats up guys. i just purchased a 2007 4runner with 300k miles on it. i got it for a very good deal and i couldnt refuse. it does need some work. you guys have any recommendations for the struts and shocks? i was looking at the monroe kit on ebay for $300 but if theres anything cheaper i would like to know. im only a highschool student and work part time and this is my first car.

KYB are a good stock replacement option for something new off-the-shelf. Also if you can find some 5th gen 4runner or 2nd and 3rd gen tacoma takeoff shocks, they will work too. Try Maryland Tacomas on TacomaWorld, may be someone with some newer takeoff shocks when they upgraded.

E-bay 5th gen take-offs is what I did. Whole OEM assembly for cheap with hardly any miles on them. Just need to grind off a bit of the lower strut eyelet. Simple and brings the old girl back to life.

Join your local toyota 4wd/classifieds page. People take the shocks of their cars all the time when they lift them and will usually sell them for cheap. If not check out rock auto and chose whatever option fits your price range. Will not be the best ride if they are cheap but will replace worn out shocks for a few years.
Thx. I actually found a set of 2015tacoma Trd stock coil over and rear shocks. Would you happen to know if these would fit my 2007 4Runner? I searched and saw that there’s minor modifications to make it work. Something about grinding down something on the strut

I am not sure. I bought 5100's that fit the 4th gen. There seems to be a fair amount of threads that could help. It appears you have to switch the bushings in the rear shocks. Take a look at this thread!
Who is running Tacoma shocks and struts?

Tacoma fronts will bolt right up. The rear bushing in the shock mount needs to be replaced. Can’t remember the part but if you google “Tacoma’s suspension swap” it should come up. You might want to add a spacer to the rear to level it out.
Do you know if I can reuse my stock springs in the rear?

My suspension needs some work though, and I need some advice. Pls advise where can I post this? I'm getting significant tire rub in red area posted about 70% of full lock on turns, especially acute changes in terrain levels, bumps, turns, etc. Hitting body mounts and plastic from corners of tires.
Have following specs:
Coastal Steel front bumper (~120lbs I think)
Bilstein 5100's front (2.5" lift) and rear (unsure of lift setting)
Bilstein coils / springs in the back (B12 heavy springs)
OEM coils / springs up front
285/70/17 tires (32.8" diameter)
FJ 17" Wheels with 1.25" Spidertrax spacers
JBA High Caster Upper Control Arms
I feel like I've read lots of posts of people running these tires no problem, not sure what I should do to fix. Was considering some OME 886 coils in front on 0" Bilsteins to achieve more lift. I went to alignment shop and asked for as close to 4° caster as they could give me but they basically lowered them both
I'm at 3.3°L/2.77°R and getting pretty bad rubbing. Was hoping to make this thing at least somewhat capable offroad, and at least driveable on the road lol. What else can I do, or do I just need new / smaller tires?Attachments

I would suggest looking through that thread. But I have quoted the relevant info below. You probably are running about a 2.5/2 lift in the front due to the added weight so it seems like you will either have to go down to 275/70/R17 tyres or look into getting a body mount chop and/or stiffer springs. It's really up to you and based on what you want to use the truck for.
I am not a suspension expert just going off the info I saw looking into 5100's on my car.

Looks like further lift via stiffer coils in the front and/or body mount chop might be on the table. Replacing the old OEM is something I'm interested in doing, does anyone know if Old Man Emu 886 coils have any issues with Bilstein 5100s?

I do not see any reason why it would cause an issue. Should work fine but look around the forum if anybody has run that combo. If you are concerned you can always stick with bilstein products and contact them to ensure fitment. I know bilstein makes some heavy duty coils.
