Hello All,

I am looking to buy a used 5th Gen 4Runner and would love any input you guys can add. I kind of had my heart set on a limited until I found out out today they are only sold in AWD. I had my heart set on the 4WD. Can anyone offer any advice as to pros and cons of each drivetrain. My thoughts are:

4WD-

• low gear
• less wear and tear on drive train
• manual engaging

also fuel mileage?

i would also like any advice on trim packages. I am definitely wanting leather. I do not care about any NAV, Entune, etc. I am not against it, but it is not required. what are any other caveats or options to keep in mind between the packages.

and mechanically, what does trail version have that others do not.

You were told wrong. The Limited is full time 4WD not AWD. Read the links at the bottom of this post on operation of all 4Runner 4wd systems. Keep reading and see the differences between models.

After you learn the facts about the 4runner and you buy one you can then read the other links to see what tires will fit and pointers on modding your vehicle for off road use.

lol if u know where one is for the 5th gen 4runner please tell the forum cause as of right now there is no such part for the 4runner.

No. 5th gen uses dual VVTI 1gr-fe which TRD (or anyone) has not released a production super charger for.

ah ha! ok, i assumed it would be the same basic 4.0 motor. well that sucks! any decent performance parts for the 5th gens? ive seen some exhaust and air filters so far.

No. Unless/until someone produces a forced induction option, your only real performance upgrade option is 4.56 or 4.88 gears.
