New member with question about Homelink

Hi Everyone,

New member here with a new 4Runner -- 2007 SR5 4WD in natural white. Loving it so far. I've driven Toyota Tacomas for the last eight years -- a '99 and an '06. Great trucks, but it was time to move to something more refined, with less road noise, with a smoother ride, but which could still be taken off-road or driven through snow, etc. The 4Runner seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Mine came with the night-vision mirror, but no Homelink. I'm thinking of doing this simple modification of buying the Homelink console and installing, as I have read about in these pages.

My question for folks who have done this: Is the finished product nice and tight and factory looking? I hate to do something and have it loose and rattling around later.

Hi,
The homelink mod looks like it is from factory. You are essentially replacing the overhead console part with the one with homelink built in. It doesn't rattle, works perfectly, and looks exactly like "stock" (because you are actually buying a Toyota part, not aftermarket)
You will really like it, just make sure you get the correct trim color to match whatever model 4Runner you have. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, ptung. I'm going to get on partznet and order this piece. I do have another question. On partznet, they show this piece in both the OEM and Collision catalogs. I guess it's the same part?

Yup! They are the same part. Just make sure the item/part # matches and you are all set!

Also be sure to get the one with the moonroof switch if you have a moonroof.

this is quite possible one of the easiest mods as it is a simple swap. Be careful not to snap any of the hooks/latches holding the light/sunroof button console in place (i.e. just go slow). Took me less than 5 minutes to do this and it has made things so much better without garage remotes.

Thanks for the info and advice, guys. I just placed my order with partznet and I can't wait to receive the new part and make the swap. Didn't realize how used to Homelink I was until I sold my old Tacoma!
