NEW Member with Rebuild Coming (HELP)

Need advice from you experienced Runners

(please dotn think less of me)

I bought a 94 4runner v6 3.0L standard 4x4 SR5 with 340,000 miles $1500

ok im changign the fluids in the diffs and rebuilding the driveshaft (only problems)


And the guy knew NOTHING about the runenr cuz he bro gave it to im as a gift, and he bought it from the original owner at 320,000 .

all i know is they put in new radiator and hoses, plugs + wires, filter and battery.

Clutch, tranny, motor sound feel good. But idk if theres any tips or tricks to find out if its been rebuilt?


basically im asking that and how much am i looking at plus advice to have a shop rebuild the motor?

I plan on keeping this baby and addings 32's and going camping/offroad/daily drive.




EDIT: and ive also seen on ebay my motor for $2000. Would it be smarter to purchase new/rebuilt motor and pay shop (or do it myself ) to drop it in? should i do the same with tranny? or try to rebuild this one. Thank you

Do a 3.4 swap. It is the motor that is in the 3rd gen 4runners and it is a much better motor. Yotatech has tons of articles on the swap and there are a few here as well.

thank you i'll check that out. will i have to upgrade the tranny too?

right now i have the 5speed . will i need the new runners standard tranny or will I be fine?

I'm pretty sure the 3.4 bolts right up to the 3.0 manual transmission. I wish I had done this with my 95. The 3.0 is drivable, but not enjoyable IMO.
