I've been following it since it came up on the BITOG forum.
It's going to be a hard pill to swallow. A lot of folks are still stuck on 3k/3mo oil regiment.
I'd say if you're on a car forum, you care about your car an ounce tad more than most folks and change your oil regularly rather than to let it run for a full year or 20k miles.

So Mobil1 finally made an oil that stands up to Amsoil's 25k service interval synthetics? (15k for severe driving)
Good for them, make sure you follow exactly what they tell you to do if you want to keep that fancy 1yr/20k service interval warranty.
I run Amsoil's signature synthetic, but last two oil changes I've done 10k intervals since I barely do that in a year.

I see this as better than other oils for people who aren't going to remember to change their oil more than once a year anyways, then trade in the car at 50k or are pissed when the motor blows at 90K.
What can the warranty actually cover anyway? That your engine will last at least 100k? 200k? Who has the burden of proof?

Save your receipt. 
I always think about DAP Dynaflex caulk when the word warranty comes up. I've used cases of it and it's good, but what about the 50-year warranty?

IMO, my car has too many miles on it to do the switch, plus I'm not 100% sure on the original owner's oil change intervals/past maintenance. However, I would consider the 20k oil intervals if I were to purchase a new car.

Well I don't know how Mobil1 will do it.
But Amsoil sold me when they replaced a guy's old 22R engine. When they first came out with the extended drain interval oil & filters the filters weren't well designed for the 22R motor I guess? Guy did everything Amsoil said and his engine blew up due to lubrication issues.

Amsoil bought him a new motor, stop saled the filters and redesigned them before releasing them again. That surprised me, since they probably could have wiggled out of it if they tried, but they went "yup you did what we said and it went boom, let's get you fixed up."
I think it's in an old thread on BITOG somewhere if you use google-fu. rather interesting.

Mobil always seems to come out with name changes to their oils every couple of years. Some of their oils are stellar (Mobil 1 HM oils and the 0w-40) while others (Extended Performance) are just there IMHO. I wonder if the base stock is Group III or higher?

Been using AMSOIL since I purchased my 4runner in 2007 brand new off the lot with 4 miles on the odometer. Have always done 20k mile oil change intervals. I now have 276,000 miles on the clock and still doing 20k oil changes with AMSOIL no issues. Anyone who does 4k mile oil changes with full synthetic is just throwing away cash.

Don't you guys think it's wierd that Amsoil refuses to submit to industry API and SAE testing? I get there's a ton of people that run Amsoil and have very positive experiences but if they are miles ahead of the competition than what's with avoiding the industry certification? Seems to me getting API and SAE approval would do nothing but increase sales. They have a few oils that are API sealed but others are not. In some cases they use additives made by Lubrizoil and are allowed to carry the API star but the actual oil wasn't certified. It just kinda seems wierd to me but I don't really follow Amsoil news and claims.
I personally will stick with Mobil 1 or Castrol, shell etc. at least until Amsoil decides to get an industry testing/approval procedure done across the board. I don't/can't tell anybody what to use nor do I want to but I certainly will NOT be going 20K between oil changes. I have personally seen what pushing oil changes can do. Manufacturers spend tons of money researching what will give a good balance of fuel economy, engine longevity, warranty cost, etc and how long oil change intervals should be. Normally sticking with the manufacturers recommendations is the way to go; however a more frequent cycle should provide better protection as your eliminating the warranty maintenance cost factor and focusing on engine longevity which is what this thread is all about.

I use the amsoil filter! They are rated for 15k but I change them every 10k and top off with oil as needed after the filter change. They also have a bypass filter system that's around 300 bucks that supposedly gives you a certain percent clean oil every hour of engine operation extending your drain internal significantly.

i used it and it is pretty good 
I had an old Nissan pickup and I mentioned to a friend one day that my truck did really good on oil. He immediately told me that his Toyota did good on oil too. Before I could call him a f***ing idiot and tell him that his truck was new and my truck had 100k miles on it, he said he had 30k miles and only had to add one quart. Thirty thousand miles on the break-in oil. If he still had the truck, he'd probably still be running the break-in oil.
