Ok, so I did this on my 97 and now that I'm starting to drive my '00 I noticed the issue again, and plan on doing this mod again....I have yet to hear of others doing this so I will call it the "Anthony Mod".....the lighters and utility plug only work if the vehicle is on.....so on my 97 I ran a piece of wire directly from the battery through the clutch master cylinder rubber boot on the firewall and direct connected it. Not sure how I will do it with the '00, as it has 3 upfront and one in the rear but I'll have to look into it....it is so nice to be able to have a phone, iPad (whatever) charging while truck is locked and not having to leave the key in the " ACC" position.....I've never had a battery issue with this mod and it come in very handy.

I did a similar thing with my LED light bar. Instead of running the switch for the bar through the ignition power, I ran the power wire back to the battery. Now I can use the light bar while the truck it off, makes it easy for showing friends and turning it on quickly if needed.

Would this just be a variation of the constant 12v power MOD?

Probably :)....don't have the time logged into this site as many others although I do love it.....just noticed I had not seen any info or talk about it. Guess I shoulda figured smarter minds than mine would of figured it out in the last 20yrs

Aahhhh haa, smarter not harder right!....I also like the 12 volt conversion to 120
AC mod....definately on the list.

MStudt is correct, the constant 12v mod via the underhood relay is EZ'r overall AND Safer because it retains the fuses.

You can leave yours as is but I hope you put a fuse right by the battery, hate to see your rig go up in smoke - Luck!

Yup, one of the first mods I did to my '99. Love being able to charge stuff while it's not running.

Yes that can be helpful, but I run my tablet off one of those outlets and I set it up to dim the display and shut off the music when it loses power. This is a very handy thing since it would just keep playing otherwise, with no sound of course but you get the point. I am currently running sound through my headunit, but once I run that through a level control knob and an amp, I may want to do this mod. What I'd do then is power the head unit, scratch that, the tablet off an ignition source, not necessarily a cig lighter style outlet.

Keep posting, everyone!
