so a family friend has offered to sell me his 2nd gen 4runner....
he bought it brand new in 1993 its a 3.0 sr5 5spd 4x4 with 170k km (canadiantruck) always dealer maintained he was anal about it, book of receipts No rust anywhere (expect the rear Bumper) never 4x4 never beaten on. just had the Clutch and all brakes done less than 300km on them done by toyota (2400$) he wants 3000$ pretty sure i can get it for 2500$ i really like it just alittle worried about the whole 3.0 head gasket thing i keep reading LOL. hoping you guys can give me some input on what you think

If it is meticulously cared for and in great shape, with a book full of receipts, then it is worth a look. Especially an original owner runner.

How is the body and interior? How about the undercarriage? Need to check it for rust or other damage on its belly.

Personally, I'd look for a 3rd gen before jumping into a 3.0 again (my only 2nd gen experience was with 130k miles, head gasket issue, PITA).

Sounds like this one is more promising. If I did my math right, it has approx 100k miles, which means well under the average for an old truck.

You and your eyes (and gut feeling) are the best thing you have going. If you can share some photos I'll provide an opinion on price, but $2500 would be fair (unless you find they average a lot less than that on craigslist, or another local auto trader type magazine).

Thanks for getting back to me the interior is in 9/10 conditon if not better!! and there is no rust what so ever on the underneath or on the body except 1 tiny bubble that's starting on the driver fender that's it and then on the rear bumper there is rust hole but that's no biggy. Big book of receipts of everything done since 93' never 4x'd.. I will try for pictures later on. In the last 8 years the truck has put on 30k km (18k miles) brand new tires, clutch and breaks less then 2000km on them
