New owner - All stock - 1985 4Runner

Hello everyone,

Recently purchased my very first 4Runner. 160k on the odometer, blown head, but no serious rust issues. Just really dusty and dirty from sitting for four years. Interior smells like it was a truck used for fishing, which is what the original owner said it was used for.

That's her in the picture, pretty much in tears, as it gets loaded onto the trailer. Something about money issues forced her to give it up.

the assumption often seems to be that everyone wants a solid axle runner. and if you intend to wheel the crap out of it, that's probably a good thing. but i don't intend, or need, to wheel the crap out of mine. it's good transportation, with room, for my job, and it gets me along the class 6 (or class 4 in VT) roads pretty well. better than my legacy did.

i have a cj, which comes with a solid axle, to wheel the crap out of (and have).

by luck, the runner that i bought had most of the features that i wanted or preferred: wing/vent windows, 5-speed, 22re, 2-doors, manual windows, tach. one thing i will change is the hubs, from auto to manual.

I didnt question it, I just read it wrong. I dd an 87 for many years and loved every second of it.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Although 80% of my driving is on-road as opposed to off, I've always enjoyed
the rugged ride of the straight axle. I had an 83 Toyota 4x4 for years till our first born came and no matter how I tried to make the car seat work it just wasn't enough room. So I let it go and waited till the right 4Runner came along.

The interior in this one definitely has to go. But what won me over was the lack of serious rust. Any rust it did have was still manageable even by a novice as myself.

Although when I first peaked underneath I thought I had wasted time driving out the 100+ miles to Ione, California. Till I started wiping down the frame with a rag and plain old water. (See pics). Just dust and dirt. No rot whatsoever.

The worst spots of rust was the battery tray!
