New Owner - How Bad is This Frame Rot?

Just purchased a 2000 4Runner Sport w/ 147K mi for $5.2K. This was the best one I've found so far in the Midwest. How bad is this rust? I was thinking I could take a pneumatic chisel/wire wheel to it, use a rust converter, some sort of paint, and then top it off with Fluid Film.

I'm worried that maybe I purchased something too far gone? What do you guys think based off the pictures? The rear frame mounts are pretty flaky but there's still some semblance of solid metal underneath.

Did I make a huge mistake? Or do you think this rust can be mitigated? I honestly think otherwise I got a great deal. Mechanically the thing is in great condition. Owned by an ASE certified mechanic.

It's not bad, clean it up and paint it, then coat it with something like fluid film from time to time to protect it.
 
Needs some maintenance, but from the pics it doesn’t look that bad. Looks like surface rust for the most part. Look around good though for any deeper issues. Then, as you said, grind, rust convert, paint. Some parts may be easier to replace than to rust treat. Springs/shocks, gas tank skid..

Looks like it can be saved. Clean it up/paint and do seasonal coatings. Most of the damage happens inside the frame and rockers, so don't get so caught up on outside appearance. Even if you never get the time to paint it, rust can be completely halted to its present state and the undercarriage can be completely blacked out with seasonal coatings.
Here's my quick simple process, 100% effective if you follow it properly -
SEASONAL RUST PROOFING using WD-40 only
