I had been kicking around getting something 4WD, and had looked at some older Land Rover Discos, but was encouraged by my fellow BMW forum members to check out 4Runners.
I had found a 97 in the St. Louis area for about 8K with 80K miles, then I happened on an internet and found a 95 with 160K miles much closer and for far less money.
I went up and checked it out and drove it, bought it on the spot. I have to go back over to pick it up tomorrow.
The good:
The body is very straight and the paint is shiny (probably cheap respray, but whatever). The interior is pretty darn clean; wear on the drivers seat, but the rest seems okay.
The bad:
Cracked windshield will have to be replaced. Needs new front shocks at the very least and new sway bar links. Some minor rust on the bumpers and a broken front bumper lens.
The ugly:
The tailgate has nasty rust all across it just below the window. It has been painted over, but looks like hammered shiznit. If the rest of the body wasn't so good, I would probably just live with it, but I will probably want to remedy this at some point in the near future.
My plan is to get the windshield and shocks replaced ASAP, then start going through the truck to make sure everything is in order. I found a dead link for going through and evaluating it, any active links for things to check out?
