New Revos!!

Just convinced myself that i needed new tires and decided that I should get some decent ones to replace my Michelins since I drive about 500 miles a week. I wanted an AT tire because I take my truck hunting a lot and didn't want to slide all over the place, but I wanted something that was going to be quiet and comfortable on the highway. After much back and forth between the BFG AT KO and the Revo and others, I got sold on these. Went with the 265/75/r16 and there is a HUGE size difference, at least to me. These really seem to fill out the wheel wells nicely. It looks pretty close to rubbing, but haven't had any problem so far (maybe 30 miles...)

Good to see another SCarolinian in here. Congrats on the new shoes, they look good. Although I think you're going to rub without some trimming, assuming you've got everything else stock.

thanks, guys! i'm catching myself staring at my truck again like i used to when i first got it. put new spark plugs in it this past weekend, so it is actually running like it did when i first got it! the truck is stock height, and these tires really do fill out the wells. still no problems with rubbing, but we'll see (hopefully this weekend) what happens when i get up to the cabin and bounce around in the dirt a little :)

Looks great! Asthetically I prefer full wheel wells even if it means a little less lift. Your ride looks sweet! I've got my front levelled out a bit and would kill for your tires and rims:D Ok, maybe not kill.

Did you get 4 or 5 of those FJ Rims?

thanks chris! i've always wanted to put a leveling kit on there, but don't really want to mess around with my gas mileage too much, since that is a major operating cost of my business!

the rims are just the stock 4r rims that came on it. there are 5 of 'em :D

didn't like these rims at all until i put these tires on, now they don't bother me... shows you what kind of attitude adjustment $750 will make!

Ah, I got it. I'm not that familiar with the older T4R rims I guess. I like 'em especially with those tires. On the subject of mileage I think Falls has those tires and targets 38 or 40 psi and he's reported even wear and better mpg. That was my experience with REVO's on my old Nissan Titan. Based on my Titan I'd say keep them rotated and they'll wear well, blow you away with how good they are in the wet and amaze you with how quiet they are for as aggressive as they look.

I have not noticed a drop in mpg with levelling that I can really quantify. I know in theory it probably dropped a bit and if all of my driving was high-speed (70+mph) highway driving I might have a different story. I know the guys who 2/1 or 3/2 it say they notice a reduction. I would say don't fear a 1" or 1.5" front-end lift as far as mpg is concerned.

38-40 psi!!?? really?

Really. The ride may suffer a bit but it's ok. Double check the sidewall but I'm sure it says 44psi max inflation.

I have nothing in writing to back up the following but I have always started with this, seldom strayed from it and always had great results:
If replacing an OEM tire that had a max psi of 35 and the pressure on the placard is 32psi I figure the ratio. In this case that's about .91. If the new tire has a different max psi I then take the .91 and multiply by the max. In this case that's 40.04psi and I start there. Next I start 'factoring' various other things: did I upsize or downsize? Once done with that I go up or down a bit to suit my taste and the specific characteristics of that tire. If I just put your tires on I would start at 38 or 39 because it's one size up (and added weight capacity) hence there's less pressure required to support the vehicle.

Another thing that 44psi tires allow for is better resistance to hydroplaning... You hydroplane at 9x the square root of the tire pressure (that value is in knots, mph=ktsx1.15). That is true. It will vary SLIGHTLY for tire tread design and depth. Truth of it is it varies way less than the tire manufacturers would have you believe. With that as the backdrop a 32psi tire will hydroplane at approx 58mph. A 39psi tire will hydroplane at about 65mph.

If, at 39psi, the ride is tolerable, the wear is even, the tire is within pressure limits why wouldn't you want the added benefit of better mpg and more resistance to hydroplaning? (As I think Falls will back me up on, his wore evenly at 38-40psi.) Now if that doesn't work for you you can run as low as the placarded value without being in danger. You'll pay a price in MPG & hydroplane resistance though.

Now I am sure many will slam the crap out of me for that logic/procedure but I have had nothing but stellar results over the years. They'll :bash: and claim :FOS: but whatever...

NOTE: The above method does NOT apply when changing load ranges! This reply is about P-rated tires! The swap to LT's is a whole nuther subject:D http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40803

Revos

Congrats on the Bridgestones. I also went through the great debate between Bridgestone vs BF Goodrich and the Revos won. Let me know what you think. Ive had them on a 98 4X2 Runner and now my 05 4x4 Runner and still enjoy them.

i hope this is a product of running 32 psi for most of the day, but my trip computer was reading 19-20 mpg on a course that will generally read 25-26 if you reset the computer as you are driving. when i got back in town after 115 miles, i increased the pressure to 40 all the way around. i think it rides better now, but we'll see about the gas mileage tomorrow!

Besides having time constraints I was under to try new tires , I went back to the Revo for a few simple reasons .

1. Gas milage was good .
2. The tires stayed balanced through all 50k miles.
3. They wore great at 40psi .
4. The snow performance was great , BUT !!! we get different types of snow here so that varied , the only thing that was bad was driving on wet hard packed snow that has been driven over many times they did not grip well. On Revos behalf it's like driving on ice and no tire has ever done any better on that type of snow. Not even the many sets of BFG's I've run in winter
5. wet/heavy/rain & water .... excellent
6.Mud .... its an all terrain , not a mud tire , but always got me home.
7. My tire was/are P rated , they were pretty tough never ripped , punctured over the places I drive.

Are they the best tire out there and a do everthing great all terrain , NO but a decent all around good tires , good manners on/off road.
