New shock assembly won't fit!

Hi, I have 2002 4runner and want to replace the factory front struts.

I bought Monroe QuickStrut Assemblies 171351L/R. When I went to install the new assembly I got the top in but the shock's lower bolt hole seems about an inch longer than it's supposed to and I can't get it lined up with the lower mount.

Has anyone heard of this? Is it somehow supposed to be compressed? I comfirmed that this is the correct replacement from Monroe and AdvanceAuto. Please help!

When I installed my fronts I needed two people and a big ass pry bar to line it up.

If you confirmed it's the right parts maybe you need more leverage.
