On my 97 I found that I could only fit 4" speakers in the rear.
I easily cut the door to fit 6x9" 3 way Infinity Kappas. Also the door panel still lines up perfectly even after cutting it to 6x9. I used some Dynomat-LIKE material to seal the speaker to the door.
The only catch is the rear windows hit the speakers if you try to roll them down all the way BUT they only hit at the last 2" going down. Since I don't have kids this isn't a problem.

Alpine Head Unit (2004)
Custom 14g speaker wire to all doors
Alpine 100W x 4 (RMS) V-12 4-channel AMP under the drivers seat
Front: Infinity Kappa 6.5" component set (comes with cross-overs)
Rear: Infinity Kappy 6x9"
