New SR5 4x4 - invoice and sales price details

There arn't very many people who post exactly what they paid and exactly what they received on their 4Runner purchases, so I figured I'd post the details of my purchase in the hope that it will help someone compare their deal to mine. I think I got a good deal, but I'll let everyone come to their own conclusions.

I was trying to get a specific buildout on a new T4R in the southeast, and these dealers did not want to deal! I got one within $500 of invoice at one point, only to have someone buy it out from under me. So, I took to the internet- mainly Autotrader and Cars.com to find the exact car I wanted across other regions of the country. I found what I was looking for in Ohio... and the dealer's willingness to offer a low price, a $1000 rebate, and an inexpensive delivery fee worked together to get this thing sold.

It's being delivered to my house tomorrow... looking forward to it.

Very good price and idea to lay it all out for others to see. When people say I bought for $xx,xxx...is this a good price, that means absolutely nothing unless you see all the details as you have posted. I have posted the same pricing info for my purchase on my "Purchasing Info" page as well as an excel spreadsheet for others to use. Also, glad to see you got pretty close to invoice and then the incentive on top of that, good buy!

Excellent post. I think one thing that prevents people from doing this, is that the car business is so into the whole deal thing, that NOBODY wants anybody to think they got hosed. So they are reluctant to post or tell what they really paid. This plays right into dealer's hands, because there is this big veil of secrecy. If you claim somebody paid such and such a price they will deny it and so on and so forth.

Transparency through the internet has swung things in our favor somewhat over the years, but they always have some new idea to combat it. What you've done is precisely what needs to happen. Everybody just needs to lay it out there. Eventually old school dealers who scam grandmothers and college kids will go away and hopefully the market will swing to the mass market merchandiser theory of volume over price gouging. Good work. You got a good deal.

That is mostly true, but if you trade in a vehicle, there is another variable that none of us can quantify (can the dealer sell your trade in for more than they gave you).

I say pick out a price you are willing to pay for the vehicle and how much you're willing to give up your trade-in for and run w/ it.

i too was looking at models in OHIO as i cannot get a 3rd row here in pa. Problem is, i cant drive this for 300+ miles on highway and tow my car. Where do you live. They were able to deliver it on a car carrier?

Great deal! No $1000 incentive in VA. My SMRP was within $25 of that and I paid $800 more counting all the fees like you. Only good part was I negotiated a few more hundred on my trade.
They will probably come out with more incentives now that I bought one :nono:

i too was looking at models in OHIO as i cannot get a 3rd row here in pa. Problem is, i cant drive this for 300+ miles on highway and tow my car. Where do you live. They were able to deliver it on a car carrier?

Maybe a Greyhound/Trailways bus ride is in order? :thumb3:

Thank you for your post. I am new to this site having found it through a Google search. Your dealer cost information is very useful in my research.

I have a 2007 Yaris and am about to acquire a 2011 4runner, SR5 probably, in the notheast Ohio area. I am looking for a vehicle that is equipped with just the features I want and waiting for a Toyota incentive.

I will try to update with numbers when I actually acquire the vehicle.

I am happy to post my experience as well. It appears as if MSRP/Invoice pricing has changed since I picked up my 2011 4runner (September). The biggest difference I see is on Invoice pricing of the based model. I guess everything is a moving target.

I just went back and repriced my 4runner using the same tool I used in September... even these numbers have changed. Base MSRP/Invoice is higher... options are lower... bottom line... no real change.

I used Zag.com through my insurance company USAA. Pretty much a no haggle system until you haggle with a dealer outside the Zag network to better Zag pricing (Zag gave me $600 below invoice... no haggle... I haggled $1,000 below invoice from another dealer).

Attached is my summary (similar format). No Trade. Out-the-door (before taxes... damn you Massachusetts).

They have one like this but not the color we are looking for and so I assume that if they have to get from another dealer or order from factory I may not get that low?

Any insight?

I put $1K down before I even knew what I was getting (I pre negotiated below invoice pricing). Don't let the high pressure Sales tactics at Boch get the best of you. There are several dealers with a 20 minute ride. I played three dealers off each other and used a down payment to show I was serious.

This was one of the first 2011s to arrive on the lot. I drove by every night to check inventory. My truck hadn't even been through inspection yet. I said, "I want it." I was told it had been on the lot for only an hour or two. I signed the papers the next day (last day of September).

I LOVE MY RIDE. I am coming from a 2000 SR5 I had owned for 237K miles. For me it is similar to transitioning to a breaking in a new pair of blue jeans after throwing out my favorite pair. This runner isn't my old one but I am sure it will break in nicely.

Rear seats are small. Kids only. Adults in a pinch if they are flexible, have a sense of humor or are the size of a 12 year old. I use them only on those short trips to avoid taking two cars.

Reliability alone would keep me away from the rover unless you cycle through trucks quickly. I will be keeping mine for 10 plus years again.

Thanks for the info. I will be firm and pay the $34 to get what I want!! There is a red with beige that I like but wife has heart set on the pearl blizzard with beige.

I have had the discovery since new, 2003, and we had to do a head gasket under warranty and I had one big ticket repair bill of $2K, so as far as reliability goes I agree not great but sadly I think I got a good one compared to others who have had horror stories.

We keep cars a long time and I would keep the Rover but my better sense says to get rid of it before something crazy $$$ happens.

This is the closest I have to be able to post. The $800 destination fee isnt added in but they charged me that as well so the MSRP was $35,200 and I talked them down to a sales price of $31,800 + tags, dealer fee and tax.

Started off using Zag.com via USAA. I found dealers in the Southeast Virginia area are not interested in giving you a good deal. The deal was 130 miles away. I am happy with the deal I got.

I'm getting the same exact 4Runner EXCEPT a price adder for special paint (i think around $250ish) (blizzard pearl) for $34,900.

THANKS VERY MUCH. Your first post is what I used in my mind to get down to where I knew I should be. Dealer said they couldnt go lower than $35,900 and I said no way..
