New Tires - 265/70/17 - No Lift

All,

There is always a lot of discussion on tires and sizes, so I wanted to share my experience. I do very little off-roading, but do drive a lot in snow, boat ramps, etc. I wanted a bit more of truck look and feel so I upsized to 265/70/17 General Grabber AT2 tires. I had 265 65 17 Goodyear Fortera Triple Tread tires with about 4/32 left of tread prior. I opted for the standard load as ride quality was more important to me then load capacity in the LT.

What a difference!! The tires fit without a lift and absolutely no rubbing. I know some will not like the filled wheel wells, but I think it looks great. A old high school friend hooked me up for $651 out the door (tire, disposal, mount balance & tax). Only have 100 or so miles but love them. Can't wait for snow.

I have seen about a .5 mpg drop and get a slight hum compared to the old, but then again the old were not aggressive at all.

Didn't have time to clean it up the truck, but here are some shots:

I opted for blackwall out, but curious about peoples opinions.

I am putting the same size on my girlfriends 06 , if we keep it , I will be adding a front lift to level it out

P.S. - What's the metal piece under the front bumper? Looks like a skid plate extension? Who makes it?

looks great..may do the same myself. Have you considered widening the stance?

not really. even though widening would look good it would probably increase the chance of rubbing and I do question the impact long term on where and tear by using spacers. It is a daily driver so keeping it pretty stock. If XREAS wears out I will go with FJ springs and shocks

That is a great looking tire. I like the blackwalls out and the white letters in. Gives your 4Runner a nice rugged look compared to those stock tires.

I don't understand why everyone on this site is so big on these "leveling" kits. I can see that there is less wheel well gap in the front but if you look at the vehicle as a whole it looks perfectly level like it is and seems to kind of point upward once these kits are installed.

I'm having the shop redo my tires right now to white letters out like I told them to in the morning. I went over to pick up my car and the guy tells the receptionist in spanish, " but those letters are blue!" I rolled my eyes and asked her if its his first time dealing with tires. I'm soooo pissed right now its not funny and I would've stayed to watch the reinstall but gf thinks it best to leave them alone (again). Wonder what they'll F up next. *SIGH*

I believe that would all depend on the tires that you go with. If will most likely have to move you fender liner up to allow room for the tires so they won't rub. I am about to purchase mine and will let you know.

i just found a set of tires with nice rims from a newer model for sale but they are 265 70 17 tires on these rims...

would this cause me any issues on my yr and model?

currently i do notice rubbing and can feel it if i cut wheel all the way.. but only when i cut full.... lookign through threads is killin my eyes lol

Has anyone gone with a 265/70/17 Hankook Dynapro ATM to be able to tell if they rub in any situation? No spacers or lift, stock rims on 2004 V8 4wd??? I'll be buying new tires soon and like the fuller look but have reservations if it might rub...
